**OVERVIEW** ------------ **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- **I. Background** UNESCO Jakarta needs a Public Information Officer to create and enable communication between the organisation and news media outlets as well as the general public. The Public Information Officer shall ensure any statements released to the press and the public are accurate and adhere to official policy or guidelines. **II. Objectives** The main purpose of the assignment is to draft communicate information through different types of media and coordinate information flow to the public on a broad range of UNESCO programmes and activities. Long Description ---------------- **III. Outputs** The expected outputs from this assignment are, but not limited to, press releases, speeches, news flash, promotional materials, and exposure of UNESCO Jakarta activities in the media and the public to increase awareness of UNESCO and its activities. **IV. Taks and Responsibilities** Under the direct supervision of the Director of UNESCO Jakarta, the Public Information Officer will use all forms of media and communication to organize and oversee UNESCO Jakarta activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders, media and the public. To this end, the key responsibilities of Public Information officer shall: Long Description ---------------- 1. Developing and implementing Jakarta office communication strategy; 2. Collaborate with internal teams and maintain open communication with Programme Specialists; 3. Writing and producing presentations and press releases; 4. Preparing and supervising the production of brochures, handouts, direct Mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs; 5. Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours; 6. Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website; 7. Managing and updating information and engaging with users on social media sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and Facebook; 8. Monitor information-related to UNESCO Jakarta regularly and irregularly. 9. Carry out other related office duties as requested by the Director of UNESCO Jakarta; 10. Submit to UNESCO for approval the monthly report including the outputs of each activity during the contract period. Long Description ---------------- **V. Inputs** UNESCO will provide the report and other necessary information required to develop, among others, a press release, speech, news flash, and response to media. **VI. Timing and Deliverable** UNESCO shall make the payments to the Consultant upon submission and approval by UNESCO of the monthly reports including the outputs during the contract period. **Additional Information:** Starting Date: Immediately Duty station: Jakarta, Indonesia **-** ----- **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education** • Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Science, English literature or other relevant field to the position. **Work Experience** - Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience in in development communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field. - Experience in report writing, managing websites, social media platforms, production of content, media coverage. - Previous experience in copy-editing will be an asset. - Familiarity with United Nations and UNESCO report writing requirements. **Languages** • Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written). **Skills and competencies** - Capability and proven experience in crafting and implementing public relations strategies - Proven ability to work efficiently and in a multi-cultural environment. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Excellent IT skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and social media/communication platforms. - Ability to write compelling, concise press releases and speeches and communicate effectively in conversations and public presentations in English. - Ability and proven experience in multi-tasking, in taking initiative and working effectively under pressure. - Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. - Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and work with diverse people. - Having a good network with media and journalists in Southeast Asian countries, especially in Indonesia. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
