Duties and Responsibilities

The global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) is part of the Strategic Communications Division of the Department of Global Communications. It is key to the Organization’s ability to reach the peoples of the world and to share the United Nations story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources. Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC Lima) in [Lima], and is offered for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full time working hours (35 hours), under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned. Part-time schedules could be arranged depending on UNIC Lima’s requirements.​ ​​Intern will report to UNIC Lima’s National Information Officer.​ ​​Intern will contribute to prepare graphic material for social media campaigns.​ ​​Specific tasks the intern will​ fulfil: Provide general office support; respond to complex information requests and inquiries of UNIC Lima; draft media and other communication documents. Assist UNIC Lima in the production and delivery of information communications products and services; Assist on media outreach, e.g. distribution of press releases and other information materials to mass media and civil society organizations; Assist in the updates and further development of internal databases; update UN website and social media accounts in Peru, including drafting and editing content, with guidance of subject matter experts; Assist in the researching and compiling of basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services about the UN. Assist with UNIC Lima audio-visual material; by producing digital imaging; write captions for UN photos, when required; Assist in the production and editing of UNIC Lima video/film projects, radio program or website projects; produce scripts, cue cards, etc., select and catalogue sound and visual materials for inclusion in UN productions. Assist in development and final production of social media products, as well as enrich potential online initiatives to audiences to raise awareness of the UN work. Help monitor news and reactions in media and social platforms relevant to UN priorities and prepare a daily news brief bulletin. Assist in the regular update of UNIC-Lima directories and distribution lists. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

​Spanish and English are the working languages of the United Nations Information Centre. Fluency in spoken, read and written Spanish is required for the internship.​
