Overview

Support communications activities of UNIC Mexico during internship.

You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required.
  • Fluency in English is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, as well as design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
  • Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Mexico City (UNIC México City), within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC Mexico, part of the global network of United Nations information centres, is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Mexico. UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to local audiences; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. The incumbent is under the direc supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). He or she reports to the NIO of UNIC Mexico. The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full-time working hours, for 6 months- 35 hours per week. With limits of delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for one or more of the following duties: Support the communications activities of the UNIC Mexico– especially, assisting with research, drafting, and production of communications products, especially audiovisual;- Assist in outreach efforts to a variety of publics and formats, including traditional and new digital means of communications;- Support the strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean; Assist in the coordination of the communication activities of the UN System agencies in Mexico, through the Communication Group; Assist in the production of multimedia stories, digital and audiovisual assets for web and social media accounts;- Draft and edit written, audiovisual and digital content, including for web, social media and print as needed in Spanish and English. Programming skills to develop AR or VR products is desirable.– Knowledge of Boolean queries and media/social media listening tools and analytics is desirable- Assist in the daily liaison with civil society, academia, NGOs in Mexico, Cuba and The Dominican Republic.- Assist in preparing the organization of events; Collaborate with the Public and Private Sector in organizing activities on UN issues of concern; Cooperate with civil society on information issues, promote UN education and youth participation. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and Spanish are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this positon, fluency in oral and writen Spanish is required. Fluency in English is desirable.
