Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The internship is located in the Development Business Unit of the Sales and Marketing Section, Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. The Outreach Division engages and educates people and their communities worldwide to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Development Business Unit administers a subscription-based online $200 billion procurement market geared toward consultants seeking contracts and suppliers seeking opportunities to supply their goods and possibly works across the globe with an emphasis on the developing world. The procurement announcements found on UN Development Business (UNDB) advertise contracts financed by the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the African Development Bank Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the United Nations, and other similar institutions. The platform can be found here: devbusiness.un.org The internship is unpaid and full-time and in-person. It is for an initial period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the Unit and availability of the candidate. The expected start date is April 1st, 2024. The hybrid setting of the internship or working part-time may be considered based on request by the successful candidate, the nature of the tasks, needs of the Unit and the discretion of the manager. When full time, interns work five days a week (35 hours) and when part-time, they work less than 34 hours a week. This is under the supervision of a staff member that the interns are assigned to. The selected intern will perform some of the following functions: - Assisting in the planning and production of marketing campaigns across different channels and platforms; - Drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original web site content/news stories/social media content, including graphics, photographs, and video; - Maintaining databases and compiling reports; - Conducting research on thematic issues; - Assisting with the development and implementation of surveys; - Providing general office support (processing, drafting, and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings, etc.). - Website functionality testing and reporting.

Qualifications/special skills

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: -(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). -(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). -(c) have graduated with a university degree (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required, and Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
