Result of Service The consultant contribute to successful communications and advocacy of the UN Office for Partnerships, particularly as it relates to the Decade of Action.

Work Location from home

Expected duration 6 months with a possibility of an extension.

Duties and Responsibilities Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the UN Office for Partnerships (UN Partnerships). Guided by the priorities of the UN Secretary-General, UN Partnerships is the gateway to the UN system to connect and co-create partnerships to deliver solutions to reach everyone, everywhere. In its role as a connector, UN Partnerships proactively engages, convenes and leverages stakeholders, initiatives and solutions in support of the Decade of Action to keep the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UN Partnerships oversees the UN Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF), the SDG Advocates programme, and the SDG Strategy Hub. The incumbent will support all initiatives of the UN Partnerships and report to the Executive Director of UN Partnerships, and work closely with other members of the team.

Responsibilities: - Contributes to the UN Office for Partnerships and UN Leadership’s presence on a range of social media platforms and websites, with an emphasis on issues related to social and economic aspects of COVID-19 response and recovery. - Designs and implements social media strategies, in line with overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging with a focus on the campaigns and initiatives related to COVID-19 response and recovery, including Women Rise for All initiative of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, the UN Research Roadmap for COVID-19 Recovery and other relevant events and programmes. - Organizes the clearance, production, and distribution of social and web content. - Prepare graphics and photo content for social media and website. - Prepares, on the basis of official campaigns, initial drafts of social and digital content. - Tracks, researches, and analyzes trends of selected social media accounts. - Contributes to social content for a portfolio of projects, initiatives and events related to the UN Partnerships teams including UNDEF, SDG Advocates, SDG Strategy Hub and UNFIP. - Manages the distribution of social content and conducts photo and graphic research. Draws on visual assets from UNDEF project milestones and post-project evaluation. - Supports the planning and execution of social media special events and initiatives. - Posts digital content to websites. - Produce communications pieces as needed e.g. press s, feature articles, speeches, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, etc. - Manages administrative tasks related to social and digital subscription tools and procurement. - Identifies, monitors, analyzes and reports on social media trends and impact and draft report inputs. - Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Assignment: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the incumbent will support the work of the UN Partnerships in the following areas:

Communications – social media and websites Activities: Plan, manage and evaluate social media communications campaigns that promote public understanding and media cover of activities relevant to UN Partnerships. Output: Designs and implements social media strategies, in line with overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging with a focus on the campaigns and initiatives related to COVID-19 response and recovery, including Women Rise for All initiative of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, the UN Research Roadmap for COVID-19 Recovery and other relevant events and programmes. Activities: Originate communications products that most effectively convey desired information/message. Organize the clearance, production, and distribution of social and web content. Output: Contributes to the UN Office for Partnerships and UN Leadership’s presence on a range of social media platforms and websites, with an emphasis on issues related to social and economic aspects of COVID-19 response and recovery. Draft social content for a portfolio of projects, initiatives and events related to the UN Partnerships teams including UNDEF, SDG Advocates, SDG Strategy Hub and UNFIP. Post digital content to websites. Draw on visual assets from UNDEF project milestones and post-project evaluation. Activities: Develop and maintain external and internal digital communications platforms such as the UN Partnerships website, social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, etc.), Intranet and other platforms. Output: Prepare graphics and photo content for social media and website. Prepare initial drafts of social and digital content. Facilitate the distribution of social content and conducts photo and graphic research.

Partnerships and engagements Activities: Facilitate and support special partnership events, outreach and advocacy activities carried out and supported by the UN Partnerships. Output: Execution of social media special events and initiatives. Produce communications pieces as needed e.g. press releases, feature articles, speeches, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, etc. Activities: Build and facilitate strategic contacts and partnerships to ensure effective public communications. Output: Respond to media queries and other information requests; develop, maintains, and update media relations contact list/database.

Qualifications/special skills Education: A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required. Work Experience: A minimum of 5 year of progressively responsible experience in communications, outreach, and advocacy in the context of international development is required. Experience with global communications and advocacy projects and campaign is desirable. Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Competency: PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of internal policies, processes and procedures generally and in particular those related to programme/project administration, programming and budgeting and coordinating events. Good research, analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and participate in the resolution of issues and problems. In-depth familiarity of the United Nations, its organizational structure, formal procedures, and practical experience in planning outreach events and conferences. Ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Other required skills: - Strong report writing, analytical and presentation skills, and experience in briefing high- level officials. - Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with different UN organisations. - Strong communications skills, including writing press releases, blog posts, talking points and background notes, and knowledge of social media. - Demonstrated knowledge of the SDGs. - Experience working in high-pressure environments under tight deadlines. - Demonstrated political awareness and sound judgement. - Ability to work as part of a small team and with a variety of different offices both within and outside the UN system.
