Org. Setting and Reporting The Public Information Assistant (Webcast) reports to the Public Information Officer (Webcast), in the Radio, Television and Webcasting Section of the UN Information Service in Geneva. The post is funded by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Responsibilities Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Public Information Officer (Webcast), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists with the live and on-demand streaming coverage on UN Web TV (webtv.un.org)
  • Coordinates with Member States, UN Departments and other clients on webcast coverage requests and schedules events for live and on-demand streaming coverage on multiple platforms and devices.
  • Accesses the recorded videos, through the Cloud video platform or through the Media Asset Management System (MAMS) to retrieve, edit, and publish webcast videos to the UN Web TV video platform; prepares and inputs appropriate metadata and tags for each video clip into the video Content Management System for publishing on UN Web TV as well as for scheduling live channels; creates promotional and other material, including infographics, and short promo or "explainer" videos.
  • Provides technical expertise in the area of web streaming and, web development and broadcast-quality coverage of high-level events and audiovisual news at the Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review.
  • Assists with technical installation, configuration and maintenance of streaming encoders hardware and software, including satellite/cellular hybrid transmission and IP video distribution. Coordinates with technicians from other Sections to test and monitor video and audio signals.

  • Compiles and presents information for use in promoting multimedia products/services for internal and external audiences, including information and statistics for usage of UN products and services.
    • Assists in the electronic dissemination of promotional materials; researches diverse print and electronic information sources for topics and materials for use in promoting multimedia products and services.
  • Prepares, maintains and updates web pages to include drafting and editing content uploads/downloads audio materials, file transcoding and maintenance of file structure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including the technical hosting of press conferences and media events

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience A minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in public communications, internet broadcasting, media production, information systems or related area is required.

Experience with streaming media technology is required.

Experience in webcast video editing and publishing is required.

Experience in video Content Management Systems and platforms is desirable.

Experience with satellite/cellular hybrid transmission and IP video distribution desirable.

Experience in setting up and managing streaming encoders is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English or French and knowledge of the other is required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
