PIO supports the communications goals of all units across the organization’s areas of competence in Asia-Pacific. PIO works with programme units to prepare overall communications strategies, develop messaging and communication goals and implement strategies through appropriate media. As a central unit operating under the Executive Office, PIO fields regular requests from colleagues for communications-related support around initiatives, publications, campaigns etc. PIO also oversees the UNESCO Bangkok website and social media channels, ensuring that content is engaging for all of UNESCO’s stakeholders, including external audiences. **Major Activities** Under the overall authority of the Director of the Bangkok Office and the direct supervision of the Head of the Executive Office (EO), the incumbent will assist the EO/Head to coordinate the work of the public information and outreach team (PIO). The post will assist the Head/EO in promoting UNESCO Bangkok's activities in the Asia-Pacific region through traditional media such as newspapers, periodicals, radio, and television, and via digital means such as website, social media, e-newsletters, and publications. The incumbent will carry out the following tasks: D.1 Serve as a focal point for Education Sector's Knowledge Management Section (KMS): manage and update Bangkok Office's education publications plans on regular basis; contribute to the electronic dissemination of publications particularly through uploading them on UNESDOC, UNESCO Bangkok website, and social media platforms and prepare outreach reports. D.2 Provide specialized assistance in the production of visual content using photos, videos, and graphics in English and Thai for UNESCO Bangkok’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram account on a daily basis. Track, monitor, analyze and report on UNESCO Bangkok social media results. D.3 Work closely with PIO’s junior information officer to produce a wide range of promotional materials for UNESCO Bangkok including but not limited to, the office brochure, UNESCO Asia-Pacific publications catalog, UNESCO in the media compilation report, e-newsletter, and other communication materials of the Office for an external audience. D.4 Serve as an information focal point on UNESCO Bangkok activities open to the press and coordinate media coverage of main events; compile, produce, and distribute to journalists basic information on UNESCO’s activities in the region and report to Bangkok EO/Head on the media coverage. Organise induction programmes for Bangkok Office’s new staff, interns and study group visitors. D.5 Handle the planning and managing of the PIO budget in close cooperation with EO’s administrative assistant and Administration and Finance Section Long Description ---------------- **Nature of Work** Work encompasses delivery of support in a range of areas, notably the production of publications, and communications materials as well as social media/website update, administration and budget of PIO team. Work entails understanding of UNESCO’s rules and regulations, most particularly the Publications Guidelines, Graphical standards and toolkit and Administrative manual. Work requires proficiency in SAP (FABS, STEPS) and use of various UNESCO applications/automated tools (DUO, CRM, SISTER). Long Description ---------------- **Organizational Environment** Work is performed with a significant degree of operational autonomy and initiative within the established guidelines, procedures and processes. The incumbent organizes his/her work routine and determines priorities while overall objectives and expected results are set by the supervisor. Results are reviewed by the supervisor for achievement of objectives and provision of overall quality and timely support. **Teamwork and Working Relationships** The incumbent works closely with UNESCO Bangkok Office’s staff (Head/EO, PIO colleagues, Bangkok administrative assistants) and with colleagues from ED/KMS and the Division for Communication and Public Engagement (CPE) in HQ. The incumbent supervises PIO consultants. Work relations within EO/PIO focus on providing assistance to the efficient and smooth running of its activities, incuding maintaining accurate accounting records of its PIO 2% budget (633CRP9901). Work also involves contacts with suppliers, UN agencies and local authorities to exchange information. Work requires full proficiency of English and excellent knowledge of a local language. **Results** The incumbent will be instrumental in delivering concrete and hands-on services in the publication process and essential in delivering quality publications.
