Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Front Office of the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), at Headquarters in New York. The incumbent will report to the Public Information Officer (P-4) and the Chief of Front Office (P5).

The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the General Assembly in June 2017. The Office has five main functions: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates across the United Nations System; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 43 Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counter-terrorism across the United Nations System and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Front Office and direct supervision of the Public Information Officer, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties in support to the implementation of the UNOCT's communications strategy: •Provides specialized assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services including through administrative and procurement procedures •Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compiles and presents information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for internal and external audiences. •Provides support for the organization of UNOCT activities open to accredited press and coordinates media coverage of important events; compiles, produces and distributes to journalists basic information (e.g. the Media Advisories and press releases); liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates logistic and technical arrangements/requests including for accreditations. •Organizes events, coordinating with diverse partners including the media to highlight and publicize key events. •Handles administrative coordination in support of special training and other programmes. •Performs junior photo-librarian functions that include provision of public information and library research services to requesters of photographic materials, and cataloguing/indexing of photographs. •Oversees the distribution of audio and video materials as well as promotional materials; ensures the good management of the film/video/promotional archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual/promotional materials. •Assists in the production and editing of video/film projects, social media and website projects: •Assists in the electronic dissemination of programmes; prepares, maintains and updates UNOCT website ad social media platforms, to include drafting and editing content; uploads/downloads audio files and maintains file structure in collaboration with project managers. •Manages updates and further develops internal databases; updates website and social media; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases. •Provides guidance and training to junior staff. •Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience Seven years of relevant experience in public communication, international broadcasting, public information or related area is required.

Experience organizing and executing special events, coordinating with diverse partners and the media to highlight and publicize key events is required.

Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, and Adobe suite of design tools such as Photoshop is required.

Experience in designing and developing interactive web features is desirable.

Experience working in an international or regional organisation is desirable.

Experience in video editing is desirable.

Languages High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
