Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the WHO representative to Jordan, the UN Volunteer Support public health programmes with Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) efforts providing expertise in ensuring a coordinated and coherent support to the public health aspects of the WHO Country Office in Jordan (WCO/JOR) programmes. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Support RCCE activities of WCO/JOR including mobilization and engagement of key partners, planning and monitoring of country’s initiatives;
• Ensure proper communication and visibility to WCO/JOR public health programmes including COVID-19 activities;
• Assist in the assessment of RCCE country capacities and needs and provide technical support to national authorities for communication of public health staff that may deployed during emergency;
• Support the development of RCCE action plan in line with global and regional frameworks and strategies;
• Assist in the development and adaptation of COVID-19 Information Evidence and Communication (IEC) materials and resources to support country RCCE identified needs.
• Support coordination of public health communication activities with key partners to ensure consistency in messaging, material production and maximize effective cooperation;
• Support the emergency programme and the communication teams in the WCO/JOR on the integration of RCCE to support COVID-19 response and be the expert point of reference for RCCE.
• Support the communication officer with HQ and regional counterparts to ensure consistency, accuracy and coherence of RCCE materials and public health messaging for COVID-19.
• Support the development of RCCE briefings to support consistent flow of information within the organization and to the network of media sources, UN agencies, NGOs and other partners.
• Organize RCCE meetings for planning, monitoring and reporting purposes;
• Support the development of a country repository of RCCE key messages, content and multimedia products developed for or related to COVID-19 in Jordan;
• Support the communication national officer in closely communicating with stakeholders on joint RCCE COVID-19 communications initiatives;
• Provide additional RCCE support to emergent needs as requested and agreed to with supervisors.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Degree in public health, social sciences, behavioural sciences, development sciences, communications from an accredited/recognized institute.

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

Experience (1-2 years) in public health, communication, emergency risk communication.

Language skills:

• English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
• Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

This assignment is funded by the Government of Sweden, therefore only Swedish nationals are eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates must be between 18 and 29 years of age throughout the assignment.

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment. Interviews will be conducted by the UN Host Entity between 29 March and 16 April. Usually these interviews are competency-based.

Assignment Preparation Training

Prior to deployment, the selected candidate will be required to attend a mandatory preparation training from 7 to 11 June 2021 organized by Sida.

COVID-19: In case of travel restrictions, assignments may start remotely or start dates may be postponed.
