The WFP Regional Bureau in Cairo (RBC) oversees countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe regions. It assists country offices in 15 countries. The RBC programme division provides strategic guidance, support and oversight to WFP programmes in the region. The Public Health UNV will support the implementation of the WFP Wellness Strategy by enhancing the Wellness in Emergency framework developed by the Regional Bureau Cairo (RBC) wellness team. This role includes assessing health-related risks, evaluating healthcare and psychological support accessibility, and refining data collection tools. The UNV will also identify and map wellness resources and assist in developing comprehensive wellness preparedness plans.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Medical Officer in WFP RO, the Public Health Assistant will: • Map health-related risks within the region and country office-specific wellness risks. • Collect and update information on accessibility to healthcare and psychological support networks in the region. • Draft and refine data collection tools for health and wellness-related information and assist in reviewing reports and other documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. • Identify and map available regional wellness resources and assist in analysing data from various sources to inform decision-making and identify trends, patterns, and insights. • Build on the existing Wellness in the Emergency framework developed by the RBC wellness team to develop country-tailored WEL emergency preparedness plans. • Support the travelers' clinic at the regional level and provide travel medicine advice and recommendation. • Coordinate activities with health facilities and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of Wellness programs and initiatives such as Facilitating vaccination campaigns, screening programs, Wellness sessions for all staff at regional and country office level etc. • Develop and update health educational materials and assist in designing and producing visual aids such as graphs, charts, and tables to convey complex data clearly and concisely. • Manage health referrals for health facilities/specialists at regional level. • Update the Wellbeing app on a regular basis to ensure access to key information at the field level.

previous / internship in public health, health emergencies preparedness and response, disaster management, and/or pandemic prevention and control. Experience working in limited resource contexts is highly valued, as is demonstrated capability in effective coordination and building strong partnerships with other organizations. Additionally, familiarity with tools and materials on community engagement in health and humanitarian emergencies is an asset but not mandatory. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian context and staff wellness, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.
