Overview

Support WHO's local COVID-19 response by assisting in various public health tasks.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field such as public health, nursing, pharmacy, or nutrition is required.
  • At least 24 months of experience in a health-related field is required.
  • Fluent in Tetum is mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of English is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) is required.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions is essential.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of [Public Health Consultant] or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV [Public Health Assistant] will:

  • Assist and support WHO’s a local response to COVID-19 and related functions, which may include, but not be limited to:
    • Surveillance and epidemiology
    • Infection prevention and control
    • Education or training of health professionals and non-health professionals
    • Laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Promoting vaccines
    • Maintaining essential health services
    • Management and analysis of data
    • Communication with government and non-government entities
    • Creation of public communication materials
    • Translation or interpretation from English to Tetun and vice versa
    • Administration

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, for example public health, nursing, pharmacy, nutrition.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • 1-2 years of employment or volunteer experience in a health-related field;
  • Proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with and office technology equipment;
  • Willingness to follow instructions, learn and be mentored

Language skills:

  • Tetum(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
