Protection Team Leader (National Position) –Advertisement

NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

Role Specific Information

The following is a brief description of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  2. Line management of project field staff (2 staff)
  3. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  4. Day to day follow up on progress of project implementation
  5. Ensure compliance with NRC policies with the new Protection from Violence CC tools, handbooks and guidelines
  6. Provide specific technical input to coordination mechanism (e.g. cluster coordination) and working groups
  7. Engage in the development of Protection specific indicators and mechanism for M&E
  8. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer skills to the team
  9. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders
  10. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
  11. Develop weekly work plans and movement schedules for Protection teams to ensure day to day activities are held smoothly
  12. Lead Protection team across areas of set up, implementation, coordinate and support Protection Officers to ensure a coherent and unified response
  13. Undertake regular visits to implementation sites to spot check and monitor progress and performance.
  14. Oversee and manage programme quality of Protection activities in West Darfur, including accountability to and effective engagement with affected people
  15. Conduct regular external coordination with external Key Stakeholders (authorities, Sector leads, Community leaders etc).
  16. Ensure Protection project activities are fully documented for financial, reporting, accountability, learning, and communication purposes.
  17. Work closely with M&E to collect reporting data on a monthly basis
  18. Identify areas where the team require capacity building and work with PDM to deliver trainings
  19. Other duties, as assigned.

Job Specification

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian protection
  • University degree in a relevant topic such as policy, law international relations or other area of studies or equivalent qualification, preferably at master’s degree levelTechnical expertise in protection in the humanitarian sector
  • Proven team leadership experience
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of the global humanitarian coordination system and its protection policy and regulatory framework
  • Experience in protection service delivery would be an advantage
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a managerial position;
  • Excellent communication and external representation skills;
  • Excellent capacity to plan, prioritize, and multitask;
  • Excellent team-working and team-leadership skills;
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to cope with stressful situations;
  • Excellent computer literacy, including MS Office (Word and Excel);
  • Preparedness to travel up to 40%
