Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Team Leader

*​***About the Job**

Assist the area protection manager in the supervision of the protection team to deliver quality protection programming, as well as supporting technical oversite of daily activities.

Sector responsibilities: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, child protection initiatives, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, land & property rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for the internally displaced and refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising, facilitation of return and repatriation processes.

Geographic scope: Hatay Field Office

This role has a focus at the field office area of operations and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the location. The role contributes to the development of field strategies related to the activities implementation, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or supervision to field operations while overseeing field activities.

Main responsibilities

Management

  • Provide supervision, guidance and monitoring for Protection staff, ensuring clarity over project work- plans and priorities and encouraging effective teamwork.
  • Facilitate regular protection staff meetings to ensure awareness of programme objectives, and opportunity for feedback
  • Build staff and partners’ capacity on children’s, women’s and refugees’ protection and safe identification and referral of protection cases (including data management).
  • Contribute to new staff on-boarding and staff induction process.

Programming & Operations

  • Support Protection Manager to ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan
  • Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors
  • Lead the team in carrying out monitoring and evaluation exercises as directed by M&E teams
  • Ensure confidentiality and data security controls processes are in place and complied with by protection staff.
  • Track the progress of activities, ensure the collecting of program indicators and provide on-time internal status reports and external donor reports.
  • Identify and advocate opportunities to mainstream protection activities.

Coordination and representation

  • Support Protection Manager and Area Manager in identifying partnership opportunities and liaising with local NGO partners and CBOs concerning protection activities and project implementation;
  • Promote relations and coordinate activities with other humanitarian actors, UN, and civil authorities if requested;
  • As guided by Protection Manager and Area Manager, maintain relationships with other NGOs, international organizations, government offices;
  • Develop and maintain good relations with the persons of concern, relevant stakeholders and other humanitarian actors, to support adequate implementation and coordination of DRC’s sector activities

Logistics/Finance

  • Support the monitoring of financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-up
  • Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movements of staff from and to different operational areas
  • Initiate procurements and ensure their execution
  • Ensure procurement plans are prepared and shared with logistics in a timely manner

As Team Leader the post-holder is responsible for the following:

• Accountable for people management of employees, usually working in the same area of work but are closely overseen by the next-level manager.

• Accountable for ensuring that agreed work plans and tasks set by the next-level up Manager are implemented on time

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology other relevant social sciences. Master's degree in political science, international development, economics or other relevant field is advantage

Required experience and competencies

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of management experience at a mid to senior level, preferably with experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee protection working for an international NGO, UN agency, relevant ministry, or local authority.
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO
  • Proven management skills and a competence in people management
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Turkish or Arabic is a strong asset.
  • Field experience; experience in working in Southern Turkey is an asset

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
