Protection Specialist, Yemen Sana'a

Your purpose as the Protection Specialist is technical development, strategic direction setting and quality assurance of the protection programme within NRC’s Yemen Response. You will be responsible for building the capacities of protection staff, as well as providing support to building the capacities of all staff on issues of safe and inclusive programming (SIP). You will be responsible for supporting the Country Management Group (CMG) with context analysis on key protection trends and protection advice.
This position is part of the Country Office Programme Department and works closely with other NRC Core Competencies (CCs) programme teams in both Country and Area Offices. You will lead the design of stand-alone protection projects, to the extent that they address specific gaps and/or complement others CCs projects in line with NRC Global Protection and the Country strategy. In addition, you will be responsible for systems strengthening, project quality assurance throughout the PCM, development of technical guidance including Standard Operating Procedures (SoP), as well as needs-based capacity building of staff and other relevant stakeholders.

Generic professional competencies for this position:
- Minimum 4 years of senior experience within the Protection sector, in a context similar to Yemen
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context skills, knowledge and experience:
- Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian principles and minimum protection standards, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, applying protection standards to vulnerable communities, referral services and protection service delivery, including protection monitoring and case management.
- Direct experience in Yemen is an advantage
- Knowledge of Arabic an advantage
