You have:

  • English - Intermediate or Upper-Intermediate level
  • Perfect command of Ukrainian and Russian

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

Overall purpose of the role

The Protection Officer (Lawyer) supports Protection Officer (Legal Analyst) and Project Team Leader in delivering legal aid services to the beneficiaries and contributing towards implementation of mobile outreach program and awareness raising program within the PSPU project. The legal focus in project is to provide support of local youth in improving their skills and confidence and local women in increasing their capacity in accessing social benefits within selected local self-governments as well as to support LSGs on the youth policy. The position ensures that high quality legal aid services and awareness raising activities are available for implementing the project indicators as well as development and delivering training program and capacity building initiatives within the project.

The position holder contributes towards delivering legal aid, training and other related activities on the employment, taxation, youth policy and other project-related legal issues.

Main responsibilities:

*Programming & Operations**:*

  • Manage motivation and engagement of the conflict-affected youth to be active and participate in the capacity development and strengthening activities in target locations
  • Organize and facilitate community-level group awareness-raising activities on recent legal developments addressing the employment, taxation, and other legal issues
  • Provide one-on-one legal counselling to project beneficiaries on their legal rights and remedies in the context of survivors of traumatic events as well as conflict and displacement contexts
  • Facilitate project beneficiaries in obtaining civil documentation, identification documents and other documents relevant to protection of rights and achievement of durable solution
  • Provide administrative and other legal assistance to enable project beneficiaries to access welfare benefits, livelihood opportunities and government and non-government benefits and privileges
  • Provide in-court representation where necessary
  • Assist in conducting legal and protection assessments as part of DRC field office staff
  • Facilitate and follow up incoming and outgoing protection referral cases

    Case Management Reporting

  • Create weekly work plan in coordination with the Project Team Leader

  • Tracking and managing cases
  • Provide input for the reporting purposes
  • Document findings of needs assessments including preparation of report inputs and other relevant documents
  • Assist with maintaining archiving system up to date both in hardcopies and electronically as well as the legal database
  • Assist in designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates

    Coordination

  • Contribute to the development of referral mechanisms for legal matters

  • Establish excellent relations with beneficiaries, including understanding the needs of beneficiaries through regular visits and frequent contact with actual and potential beneficiaries
  • Assist in providing information to and cooperation with community representatives, CSOs and relevant authorities
  • Attend and participate coordination meetings when delegated by supervisor

Required experience and competencies

We offer

Contract length: 3 months with possibility of extension based on available funding.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff.
