You have:

  • Excellent knowledge of Protection and PSS minimum standards and basic principles.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of beneficiaries at all times.
  • Ability to provide technical support, trainings and daily supervision of protection assistants.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible with working hours and able to handle pressure well.
  • Ability to communicate and write clearly in English is a must.

DRC has been responding to various humanitarian crises in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees. DRC received registration from the Ministry of Interior in 2011, and since then has focused primarily on responding to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and the resulting impact on Lebanese host community. DRC Lebanon’s focus is to ensure that we are able to respond to critical emerging humanitarian needs whilst improve the living conditions of displacement-affected populations and contribute to the achievement of durable solutions. With an annual portfolio of $12million, and with approximately 200+ staff, DRC is focusing its response in protection and economic recovery (Ec-Rec) sector in Bekka, North Lebanon and Beirut. DRC is also contributing to the evidence base and coordination structures in country through our Evidence Generation and referral information management (RIMs) teams

About the job

Supervision of the daily protection activities and ensuring the quality of the planning, implementation and follow-up of all technical aspects of protection activities being implemented by DRC. Develop and maintain good relations with the persons of concern, relevant stakeholders and other humanitarian actors, to support adequate implementation and coordination of DRC’s sector activities.Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Programming & Operations:

  • Under the management of the Protection Team Leader, ensure effective management, planning and implementation of protection activities related to PSS interventions in mobile and static safe spaces;

  • Develop weekly and monthly work plan for protection assistants and ensure timely update and follow-up;

  • Draft and revise projects tools (monitoring tool, evaluation tool, work plan etc.) and coordinate the implementation of the M&E assessments
  • Supervise the collection, storage, filing and analysis of protection related data, including referral data, and ensure they are in compliance with data protection policies, and ensure the confidentiality of data and information at all times;
  • Ensure effective management, documentation and follow-up of referrals (sent and received)
  • Ensure that all spaces where activities are implemented meet interagency standards for safe spaces whether mobile or static, and feed into the drafting of relevant MoUs

  • Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools and report on problems in the implementation of the program;

  • Collaborate closely with IM staff to ensure accuracy of reporting and support the Protection Team Leader in donor reporting as needed, including through developing monthly reports;
  • Monitor the progress of project targets against indicators on a weekly basis and flag any challenges to the Protection Team Leader in a timely manner;

Supervisor responsibilities:

  • Supervise the daily work of protection assistants and ensure the quality provision of protection services related to PSS in compliance with best-practice and DRC’s guidelines;

  • Support the Protection Team Leader in the recruitment and/or performance appraisal of members of the team as needed;

  • Lead the identification process of community facilitators supporting the implementation of PSS activities and support their capacity-building as needed;
  • Lead weekly team meetings to discuss challenges and successes faced in implementation and bi-monthly individual feedback sessions with team members to provide guidance, constructive feedback and discuss opportunities for improvement;
  • Train and coach all newly recruited Protection Assistants on relevant SOPs and guidelines, protection and PSS principles, as well as data protection principles;
  • Provide protection related training sessions to external and internal actors if required

  • Ensure staff have access to needed training, on the-job coaching, shadowing, and are sufficiently trained and supported to understand the expected outcome of activities;

  • Conduct regular field visits and spot checks of PSS activities to ensure quality of implementation

Coordination and representation:

  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders on sector relevant issues
  • Maintain an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and ensure that Protection Assistants are informed about the available services

  • Represent DRC at meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings, draft meeting minutes and share the information with all relevant stakeholders;

  • Facilitate efficient coordination between different DRC Protection sections and sectors, especially between different protection teams;
  • Ensure that informed consent is given at events where communication material is being collected (images, quotes etc.)

Logistics/Finance:

  • Support the Protection Team Leader in monitoring of financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-up;
  • Initiate and follow up on procurements and ensure their execution
  • Prepare request for payments and follow-up on their execution

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Bachelor/Degree in Social work, Counseling, psychology or other related field. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Preferred qualifications:

  • NGO experience and previous experience working with Syrian refugees in Lebanon is preferred
  • Ability to communicate and write clearly in English is a must
