Overview

You have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce or any related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with vulnerable communities, basic needs, protection and Non-Food Items (NFI) distribution programming experience, and/or advocacy programs
  • Experience in distribution and protection interventions in line with Refugees operation with Persons with Specific Needs (PSN) assistance
  • Experience of working with UN or Non-Governmental organizations
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills
  • Good self-organization and basic management skills
  • Familiarity with Monitoring & Evaluation for UN-funded projects
  • Knowledge of the local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese refugees communities

DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Protection Officer-Distribution.

The overall purpose of the role:

The Distribution Officer, under the management and supervision of the Protection Team Leader will be responsible for implementing Core Relief Items (CRI) distribution to the persons of concern in Imvepi refugee settlement

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Project development, implementation and reporting

  • Oversee projects under his/her responsibilities, and ensure that Non-Food Items (NFI) are distributed in an accessible and accountable manner for DRC Persons of Concern (PoCs) and according to the commitment with donors.

  • Responsible to use and monitor the budget at his/her disposal according to the work plans, compliance with DRC procedures and contracts with donors.

  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly distribution reports in accordance with reporting requirements.

  • Define the daily, weekly, and monthly work plans, organize the workload of their team and supervise all staff working under their responsibilities in Core Relief Items/Non-Food Items Distribution.

  • Participate in Core Relief Item (CRI) working groups and monitor, support the coordination of services and assistance in the settlements.

  • Work in close collaboration with relevant settlement stakeholders, Office of the Prime Minister, refugee leaders, to enhance community support and collaboration in the provision of emergency relief to new arrivals, refugees and/or particular individual cases.

Coordination and representation

  • Develop relationships with a range of key stakeholders, Local Government on distribution thematic areas at the field level in close liasion with the Protection Team Leader.

  • Represent DRC and actively participate in the local distribution working groups and any other meetings as requested.

  • Close coordination in project implementation with partners (UN agencies and national/international NGOs), including referrals, community services gap analysis, and advocacy

  • Work closely with the other program components to maximize program output and impact.

Staff development and management

  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for the Distribution Volunteers within the operational area.

  • Conduct field - mentoring - through technical back stopping and to train duty bearers.

  • Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles on accountability.

Support management team to:

  • Follow up all DRC Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.

  • Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct and principles of accountability.

  • Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Contribute to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and interventions.

  • Identify,document and disseminate relevant project success, challenges and follow up on implementation of project's action points.

  • Assist in participatory needs i.e. post distribution monitoring exercises

  • On request, perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.

  • Adhere to DRC’s code of conduct

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with vulnerable communities, basic needs, protection and Non-Food Items (NFI) distribution programming experience, and/or advocacy programs. Moreover, we also expect the following.
