Overview

Implement protection monitoring activities in selected sites under guidance of Protection Manager.

You have:

• Minimum of one year’s experience in an entry to mid-level position in humanitarian response and refugee/IDP protection for an international NGO, UN agency, and local NGO.
• Experience in conducting protection monitoring or quantitative and qualitative data collection and research or assessment using online data collection tools such as Kobo.
• Good data collection, basic analysis, and reporting skills.
• Experience working with displaced or conflict-affected populations.
• Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently and within a team.
• Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• University degree/Diploma in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic are required; English is an added value.

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Protection Manager and guidance of the Protection Coordinator, the Protection Monitoring Assistant will implement protection monitoring activities in selected DRC sites. The role supports the identification, analysis, and reporting of protection risk trends in assigned areas. The Protection Monitoring Assistant ensures high-quality, ethical, and timely data collection and analysis in line with protection principles and Protection Information Management standards. The role engages with communities and key stakeholders to strengthen understanding of the protection environment, supports safe referrals to specialized services, and contributes to awareness-raising on protection risks and mitigation measures. In addition, the role supports partner organizations implementing protection monitoring with DRC, ensuring alignment with agreed tools, methodologies, and quality standards.

About the job:

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct protection monitoring activities in assigned areas, in line with DRC guidelines and protection standards, under the supervision of the Protection Manager/Coordinator.
• Contribute to the testing, periodic review of protection monitoring tools and plans, and support analysis of collected data in coordination with the Protection Manager and Protection Coordinator.
• Support the identification of protection risks, trends, and needs through interviews and, where appropriate, Focus Group Discussions
• Utilize approved data collection systems to collect and upload data in accordance with Protection Information Management standards, best practices, and data protection protocols.
• Support and partners implementing protection monitoring with DRC, including on tools, methodologies, and adherence to protection standards.
• Identify individuals at risk, provide accurate information on available services, and refer them through safe and confidential referral pathways to specialized assistance.
• Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and community actors to gather up-to-date information, including on displacement dynamics within the area of coverage.
• Engage regularly with community-based structures in a respectful, inclusive, and culturally appropriate manner.
• Participate in relevant trainings (e.g., Protection Information Management, protection principles, and other technical areas) to strengthen capacity.
• Support and participate in protection and multi-sectoral assessments as required.
• Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all activities to support monitoring of project progress, effectiveness, and accountability.
• Contribute to the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports, as well as inputs to protection monitoring reports and protection analysis.

• Experience working with displaced or conflict-affected populations.
• Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
• Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
• Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

• University degree/Diploma in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.

Languages: Fluent in Writing and Speaking

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic are required; English is an added value.
