About the job

The Assistant is an active member of the protection monitoring field team and carries out a variety of field-based activities in line with Protection Monitoring principles and Standard Operating Principles (SOPs). These include but are not limited to individual interviews, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, direct observation, community engagement and the idnetification and subbition of individuals requiring an immidate response. The Assistant also supports the Officers and Team Leaders in the development of protection monitoring information sharing products.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Under the supervision of the Protection Team leader, carry out effective protection monitoring activities with efficiency and according to the developed work plan.
  • Monitor and share trends for analysis of the protection situation and environment in all areas of intervention for all groups of concern for management, program, and advocacy purposes.
  • Support Officers and Team Leaders to contribute to the regular development of protection monitoring products, including monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/ad hoc reports as requested by the Protection Team Leader or Protection Manager.
  • Participate in the implementation of general protection activities in accordance with agreed objectives, such as outreach and information dissemination.
  • Share information to allow awareness of and response to developments, emergencies, and population movements through participating in rapid protection assessments, joint assessments, protection analysis etc. to identify protection concerns and needs to inform response.
  • Represent DRC to communities including community focal points, persons of concern and otherwise as delegated by the Protection Monitoring Team Leader and/or Manager, in close coordination with Protection Monitoring Officers.
  • Ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with communities and their representatives.
  • Other tasks assigned by the line manager.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, ability, and willingness to work with all groups of conflict-affected population, including vulnerable migrants and refugees. Your knowledge of the migration context in Libya and of protection risks faced by conflict-affected populations, including migrants and refugees, combined with good verbal and written communication skills ensures you will contribute to the best of your ability to raising protection needs, risks, trends, and gaps. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • University degree in social sciences, humanitarian affairs, development or any other related field.
  • 2 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, human rights, civil society, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
  • 1 year experience working directly with conflict-affected and/or vulnerable groups, including migrant and refugee populations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with communities and stakeholders.
  • Fluent Arabic and English written and writing skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of French and other languages are considered as asset.
  • Capacity to document, summarize and analyse protection data and to share information in a clear and systematic manner.
  • Experience in identifying and responding to needs of particularly vulnerable individuals and groups based on field work, protection, age, gender, and diversity analysis and other criteria.

We offer

Contract length: 5 months with possibility of extension depending on performance evaluation and funding.

Designation of Duty Station: Tripoli

Start date: 8th August 2022.
