Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant – Hotline Interpreter

*​***About the Job**

The overall purpose of the role is to provide high-quality interpretation services to people at risk, to support them to link up with the needed service(s) and to mitigate the negative effects protection issues on individuals, and contribute to the improvement of the overall protective environment.

Sector responsibilities: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, land & property rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for the internally displaced and refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising.

Geographic scope: Hatay Field Office

This role has an area / base focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks.

Main responsibilities

  • Support the identified PoCs with language barrier by providing the required interpretation to link them with the relevant service providers to mitigate their protection risks. Support in accompaniment of the client to the relevant service provider premises to provide the needed interpretation support when needed. Where social distancing measures are required, provide this interpretation over the phone, where and if possible.
  • Provide interpretation support to referred cases, and ensure safe referrals to other DRC departments as needed, maintaining strict protocols for safety, international and national standards and procedures, confidentiality and consent, and ensure proper follow-up and information provision on status of referral to the client, when needed.
  • Supporting protection team in the interpretation for the GBV/Legal and other AR sessions when needed including the translation of the session materials.
  • Support in interpretation for the meetings with stakeholders and other NGO/INGOs when needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other DRC departments.

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have diploma or equivalent professional qualification

Required experience and competencies

Minimum requirements:

• Minimum 1 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO

• Field experience

• Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Advanced Arabic and Turkish proficiency

• Turkish Nationality

• Female candidates are encouraged to apply

Preferred experience and competencies:

• Previous experience in interpretation.

• Strong communication skills to engage with refugee community and service providers.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Fluency in English language highly desirable
  • University degree in sociology, social work, international affairs, humanitarian action or related field
  • Previous experience working in the provision of interpretation service
  • Experience working in the humanitarian field (preferably experience from southern Turkey)
  • Experience in protection activities and/or social or health sector.
  • Experience working with Syrian refugees
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands
