You have:

  • Minimum 1 year of proven experience in refugee/displacement programs.
  • A diploma or relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in administrative tasks.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian.
  • Good command of verbal and written English.
  • Working knowledge of Polish will be considered an asset.

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant to be based in Gdynia, Poland.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to promote and protect durable solutions to conflict and displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC is implementing a multi-sector response to support Ukraine refugees, IDPs, and host populations both within Ukraine and in the neighboring countries of Poland, Romania and Moldova, and wider Europe. Since late February 2022, nearly 4 million Ukrainians and third-country nationals have crossed the border to Poland. As part of its neighboring country's response, DRC is establishing an operational presence in Poland to support displaced populations through a partnership with civil society organizations and national NGOs, duty bearers, and other actors.

DRC Poland will be responsible for the management of four Blue Dots supported by UNHCR and UNICEF in Gdynia, Lublin, Warsaw, and Wrocław. In each location, the Blue Dot services will be provided in collaboration with local/national NGOs. In each location, a designated area lead is responsible for the coordination of the Blue Dot services. With the support of the Protection Team Leader, the Protection Assistant will be responsible for the information/welcome desk at the Blue Dot in Gdynia and also support mobile Blue Dot activities.

About the Job

Main Responsibilities

  • Welcome Blue Dots clients and provide information on services available on-site and terms of accessing those
  • Manage information materials available in the Blue Dots and supports linking people to services
  • Operate Blue Dot info lines
  • Support identification of protection concerns within the community
  • Support referrals to relevant services
  • Direct clients to relevant service provision points within the Blue Dot
  • Encourage clients to provide feedback after visit using DRC Complaint and Feedback Mechanism
  • Participate in mobile outreach activities within TriCity and Pomerania region
  • Document Blue Dot activities as advised by Team Leader
  • Provide needs-based translation/interpretation support

About You

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 1 year of proven experience in refugee/displacement programs. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • A diploma or relevant professional experience
  • Experience in administrative tasks
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Experience with following standard procedures and guidelines
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian
  • Good command of verbal and written English
  • Working knowledge of Polish will be considered an asset

Contract length: contract until December 31st, 2022 with possible extension depending on funding
