Breastfeeding is one of the most effective interventions for ensuring child survival, healthy growth and development, and improved maternal health.
- The campaign will contribute to WHO’s and Bangladesh’s maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition priorities by promoting, protecting, and supporting optimal breastfeeding practices. These include: • Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of birth. • Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. • Continued breastfeeding up to two years of age and beyond alongside appropriate homemade complementary feeding. • Strengthening support systems for mothers through families, communities, workplaces, and healthcare services. • Increasing public awareness of the health, nutritional, developmental, economic, and environmental benefits of breastfeeding. • Creating an enabling environment that protects breastfeeding and reduces the influence of inappropriate marketing of breastmilk substitutes. • Supporting equitable access to accurate breastfeeding information and skilled breastfeeding counseling for all mothers and caregivers including emergency settings.
