The Office focuses on ensuring access to and quality of adult literacy and non-formal education. UNESCO, under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) system capacity grant (SCG), supports capacity strengthening to the education sector situation analysis with gender and equity lenses, educational planning review, sector coordination, and monitoring and evaluation of the relevant education sector framework. UNESCO is seeking to hire a Coordination Officer to oversee the coordination roles of the project in collaboration with the implementing partners and donors. Long Description ---------------- Under the overall supervision of the Director of UNESCO Office in Kabul and the immediate supervision of the Head of Education UNESCO Office in Kabul, the coordination Officer is responsible for supporting the enhancement of UNESCO’s position in the education inter-agency coordination mechanisms, bridging the gap between humanitarian and basic human needs nexus: - Following up on coordination among local and global stakeholders on the implementation of the relevant education sector framework; - Support the Head of Education in the development, planning and implementation of the Education Unit’s reprogramming of existing programmes/projects, resource mobilization, and partnership development; - Participating in and contributing to UNESCO Education in Emergencies internal coordination with the Headquarters, Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau, and other UNESCO entities; - Contributing to the successful implementation of GPE Systems Capacity Grant (SCG), Education Sector Program Implementation Grant (ESPIG), and other bilateral and multilateral donor-funded projects under the relevant education sector framework through actively participating in the planning, reviewing, and monitoring of the projects; - Coordinating and facilitating UNESCO Kabul Office's intersectoral and joint work planning and reporting, including facilitating coordination of implementation of the activities under GPE SCG; - Organizing and coordinating monthly and quarterly coordination meetings with education partners and donors; - Facilitating education partners capacity building initiatives and supporting and mentoring the National Coordination Officer, and regional coordinators on partner's coordination; - Supporting the finalization of GPE SCG narrative and financial reports; and - Supporting UNESCO to fulfill its role in the UN coordination mechanisms, ensuring linkages with the humanitarian and basic human needs nexus. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Communication (C) Accountability (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Master's university degree or equivalent in development studies, education, development economics, and related fields. ***Work Experience*** - At least 7 years of relevant work experience in education coordination, education programming, and other related fields, ideally in crisis-affected contexts. - Experience in an international educational organization is an added value. ***Skills and Competencies*** - Excellent understanding of development partners’ expectations and trends in the education sector; - Excellent project management skills, including results-based management, financial management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting; - Ability to work effectively in a team and to maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment; - Ability to build and maintain partnerships; - Ability to work under pressure, to manage heavy workloads, and to meet tight deadlines, paying close attention to detail and quality of work; - A deep understanding of humanitarian and development work, particularly of capacity development in education; - Strong sensitivity and adaptability in post-conflict countries and diversity (culture, gender, religion, race, and nationality); - Integrity, reliability, and sense of commitment in the execution of duties; - Excellent coordination and organizational skills; - Good analytical and problem-solving skills; - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to draft clearly and concisely; and - Strong IT skills including good knowledge of standard office software and online collaboration tools. ***Languages*** - Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.
