It is aimed at increasing the supply of qualified and motivated teachers, thereby contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all". The Teacher Programme consists of a regular programme on teacher development and multiple extra-budgetary projects, currently including three funded by China and one funded by Korea. In addition, the Teacher Programme also coordinates and collaborates with other UNESCO teams in the field and at the Headquarters, as well as the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 and other key international and regional actors in the field of education, particularly concerning teacher development. **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the guidance of the Director of the UNESCO Bangkok Office and Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau, and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Section for Educational Innovation and Skills Development, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: **1. Developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and reporting on the following projects comprising the Teacher Programme to ensure the achievement of the expected results:** - China Shanghai Funds-in-Trust Project “Promoting the Professionalization of Teaching in Asia-Pacific and Africa through the Development and Operationalization of National Teacher Competencies and Teaching Standards Frameworks” - China Hainan Airline Funds-in-Trust Project “Enhancing Girls’ and Women’s Right to Quality Education through Gender Sensitive Policy Making, Teacher Development and Pedagogy in South, Southeast and Central Asia”. - Korea Funds-in-Trust Project “Promoting Global Citizenship Education in the Asia-Pacific Region through a Whole-School Approach”. - China-funded Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region. - World Teachers’ Day Asia-Pacific Regional Celebration. - UNESCO publication on Continuing Professional Development for Teachers in the Asia-Pacific Region. Long Description ---------------- **2. Serving as the deputized Asia-Pacific Regional Focal Point for UNESCO’s thematic area of Teachers, mainly undertaking the following duties:** • Coordinating and providing regional-level strategic, technical and content inputs for the thematic area as requested. • Preparing biannual programme-level and regional-level reports on the thematic area, based on the reports by the relevant teams in UNESCO Bangkok Office and other UNESCO Field Offices in the region. • Communicating and coordinating with UNESCO Headquarters, Field Offices and Institutes, as well as other relevant UN agencies and key regional organisations on the thematic area. • Participating in internal meetings on key issues related to the thematic area, sharing experience and suggestions from the regional perspective. **3. Attending meetings, conferences and other education events particularly concerning teacher development when required, giving presentations or acting as resource person upon invitation.** **4.
