Who are we?

The Diaspora Programme is implemented by Danish Refugee Council (DRC)’s Civil Society Engagement team. DRC engages civil society actors rooted in and/or with direct ties to the Global South, and therefore considers diaspora transnational civil society actors an integral part of the civil society we work with.

Since 2010, DRC has been working with diaspora groups as transnational civil society actors. Engagement with diaspora is based on a recognition of the significant role they play for people and communities in countries of origin (or heritage), for refugees and migrants in transit, and for newly arrived refugees and migrants in countries of residence, and, consequently, their potential for improving the situation for many of those affected by conflict and displacement.

About the job

As Project Officer, you will be an integral part of the Civil Society Engagement team, focusing primarily on a project to increase Afghan women’s meaningful participation & leadership in discussions on the future of Afghanistan, funded by FCDO. You will work closely with the Afghan diaspora engagement team, which includes a Project Coordinator, a Project Officer and a Student Assistant to implement activities that support women and women-led civil society organizations. The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

Evens planning and management.

  • Support tasks related to planning and follow-up of events including webinars, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • In collaboration with partners, lead/support the organisation of in person course for Afghan women. Assist with admin, logistics and finance related tasks and manage the training evaluation
  • Arrange for participants travel & hotel

Support equitable partnerships and grants management with Afghan organisations

  • Formalise subgrant agreements with Afghan diaspora partners.
  • Provide technical and programmatic support to partners, including for procurement, financial and narrative reports.
  • Ensure partner’s activities are implemented on time and in accordance with the DRC’s guidelines
  • Engage with Afghan women outside of Afghanistan on support needed to attend relevant events
  • Booking or reimbursement of travel and hotel costs

Afghan civil society outreach

  • Regular contact with Afghan civil society/diaspora to understand their views, perspectives, and priorities to inform our support
  • Manage our database of Afghan diaspora contacts

Project monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor the activities as per the MEAL plan in the proposal
  • Monitor budget expenditures, keep the BFU up to date and organise regular budget follow up meeting with the Finance focal point.
  • Other project/administrative related tasks

About you

To be successful in this role, you excel in mobilising and working with a broad range of actors. You have experience working with DRC on events and ideally with partners.

All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required :

  • 2-5 years’ experience in project management (including finance and administrative aspects)
  • Previous experience working within Danish Refugee Council
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience in admin, finance and logistics management
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Strong organisational, communication and multitasking skills
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity
  • Strong interest with matters relating to civil society, diaspora, forced displacement and humanitarian assistance

Desirable

  • Experience in participatory approaches and facilitation skills (events/meetings/trainings)
  • Knowledge of the Afghan context and culture
  • Experience in civil society engagement
  • Fluent in Dari or/and Pashto is a strong advantage
  • Strong network within the Afghan civil society
  • Experience working with focus on Afghanistan

We offer:

Contract length: up to 7 months with potential for extension pending additional funding.

Workplace: DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen, Borgergade 10

Start date: as soon possible

End date: 31 March 2024

The position is temporary as we currently have funding for the position for 7 months.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. The position is at “fuldmægtig” level. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
