Major Responsibilities

Ensure the effective implementation of health program activities

  • Lead and oversee the overall project implementation and provide technical backup support to Health workers/HEWs and partners in all PHC service delivery related technical areas
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual project procurement plans with other staff and raise purchase requisition
  • Compile and submit periodic internal, government and donor reports: monitor and report on relevant activities and outcome/impact and submit to M &E and project manager
  • Provide technical assistance to health care providers in accomplishing planned activities
  • Conduct regular meeting with project team and government and other relevant stakeholders
  • Organize and facilitate project relevant workshops, trainings, post training-follow up, mentorship and coaching
  • Facilitate, participate and represent the project in meeting and workshops to ensure strong partnership and collaboration at all level
  • Participate in the development of program/primary health care service delivery/ intervention model/manual
  • In collaboration with project staffs boost the quality implementation of the project activities as per the project objectives and operational plans.
  • Coordinate and conduct integrated/joint supportive supervision to HC-HP and communities and document findings and recommendations of field visits for follow-up action.
  • Conduct capacity-building interventions for HEWs/HWs and community health workers and community mobilization activities with key Health messages,
  • Any other task assigned by his/her supervisor (project manager).

Ensure the effective implementation of Nutrition program activities

  • Conduct training on nutrition manual and guidelines based on existing national nutrition protocols and curricula as per the plan.
  • Assist on the development of OTPs, SCs and SFP sites for the treatment of malnourished children integrated with the existing health facilities.
  • Serve as nutrition resource person at field site and assist with professional field staff in the treatment of malnourished children.
  • Assist in conducting nutritional surveys following the nationally approved survey protocol and lead/support in the planning, quantification and selection of nutrition services sites establishment, and operations,
  • Ensure all beneficiaries (Children and PLW) in the CMAM programme receive care and treatment in accordance with Guidelines, including proper taking of anthropometric measurements and proper referral and receive food/treatment according to the agreed protocol
  • Facilitate and organize referral of sick children to the stabilization center and ensure effective follow up of these children.
  • Organize the implementation of follow-up protocols requiring community outreach on a weekly basis with OTP patients,
  • Identify a number of community leaders who will work closely with the program at the village
  • Assist the community Nutrition workers implementing nutrition activities to develop monthly work plans.
  • Follow and ensure proper registration and admission/discharge of CMAM patients including ongoing monitoring on patients
  • Prepare weekly activity reports and contribute to performance reports to the Assistant Nutrition Program Manager,
  • Mentor the nutrition workers to ensure that they support and supervise the community Nutrition workers in their areas of coverage as required
  • Document and share success stories, case studies and lessons learnt in a comprehensive and detailed manner to enable track trends on changes on a timely basis
  • Ensure regular meetings with the nutrition and community health workers and compile activity reports including weekly screening data and Monthly reports
  • Support and collaborate with the IYCF Officer and Asst. PM. In carrying out community based nutritional promotional activities targeting community groups.
  • Support implementation of nutrition promotion activities, School nutrition clubs, community outreach, and facility-based nutrition education focusing on IYCF, growth monitoring and maternal nutrition, dissemination of IEC materials.
  • Liaise and establish strong links with existing community structures including women groups, community development committees, youth groups and religious leaders.
  • Work closely with MEAL Officer to ensure data quality and accuracy.

Ensure the effective implementation of Mental health and psychosocial support program activities

  • Implementation of the activities according to the logical framework: counselling, identify GBV cases, creating links with similar organization and partners working on MHPSS, training, IEC tools etc.
  • Organizes, facilitates and conducts specific trainings on GBV issues/MHPSS/PFA for SGBV & health care workers according to the needs.
  • Obtains assistance for health workers by referring them to community resources; arranging for appointments; establishing rapport with other agencies.
  • lead the process of integration of mental health and psychosocial support into general health care in the PHC facilities.
  • Provide psychosocial support services such as conducting psychoeducation sessions linked to general health care clinics
  • Review MHPSS cases seen by the clinicians and provide specialized psychotherapy for complicated cases as may be required.
  • Support and collaborate with psychiatrist in facilitation of the mhGAP training and supervision of the primary health care staff.
  • Select, provide training and supervision for community volunteers such as PFA, PM+ and peer group therapy
  • Provide culturally appropriate counselling services to the target population with mental illness or experiencing psychosocial challenges in accordance with professional ethics and best practices.
  • Strengthen community-facility referral system for target population with psychosocial needs.
  • Work in keeping with IASC guidelines on mental health and psychosocial support and promote guidelines where appropriate

Monitoring and Evaluations

  • Monitor the implementation of project activities on continuous basis and take feasible corrective actions based on the findings
  • Work with M&E team and provide support on the baseline, midterm and final lesson learnt
  • Provide support on effective program activities data analysis and use at health facility and woreda levels
  • Collaborate with other organizations and projects/programs to ensure synergy, sharing of technical resources, learning and mutual support
  • Ensure supportive supervision visits, review meetings and related forums feedback is applied for continuous improvement in PHC service delivery interventions
  • S/he will support the hiring, training, and supervision of the Health and Nutrition Program coordinator and team at the field level.

Planning and Reporting:

  • In close collaboration with woreda Women and Children offices and health offices prepare annual and quarters action plan and ensures timely submission at the respective sub city and woredas
  • Provide follow-up and technical support for woreda women and Children office ensure preparation of timely and quality quarterly and annual project progress reports on the prepared formats.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, Bi-annual, annual plan and reports at the respective woreda level and ensures timely submission for Child Protection Project Coordinator.
  • Prepare compiled monthly, quarterly and annual plan and report of the project for relevant government bodies at their respective woreda level and ensures timely submission in consultation with immediate supervisor.

Coordination and Management of Projects Implementation

  • Ensure the project is implemented in always responsive to teachers, the community, and children in line with Save the Children principles, values and strategic plan and following Save the Children.
  • Ensures integration of activities of government stakeholders and the project and strengthen collaboration at sub city and woreda level.
  • Identify gaps and provide technical and capacity building support for all stakeholders and Woreda Women and Children office.
  • In close collaboration with the Child Protection Project Coordinator and officer, Women and Children office, Labor and Social Affairs, health office and other government stakeholders, facilitate on time implementation of the project activities based on the action plan and ensure implementation quality.
  • Ensure active participation of women, children and other stakeholders in the project activities implementation.
  • Develop and document best practices, lessons, case stories, work films and pictures properly
  • Strengthen the capacity of the health system to effectively use management tools and implement best practices at all levels of the health system and health care delivery with a major focus at the primary care level

Other

  • Represent the WVE in the woreda child protection forums/meetings on areas related to the project, as required.
  • In cooperation with Immediate Supervisor and Learning and Knowledge Management, ensure proper documentation of experiences and lessons learned from projects under supervision.
  • Provides inputs to the as requested through conducting quick needs assessments and general information related to MHPSS in the area to inform new program development.
  • Performs other related activities as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Inform the Health and Nutrition program coordinator of any professional problems encountered.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks on an ongoing basis, and adapt to a shift or change in priorities, including the ability to work a flexible work schedule as needed to meet deliverable deadlines.

Capacity Building

  • In collaboration with the Project staff and government stakeholders’ staff, identify gaps and facilitate capacity building training and other support for government stakeholders and the community and other stakeholders.
  • Arrange experience sharing media among beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the required appropriate technical support is provided for all government structures on time and strengthen team spirit and collaborative work.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • BSc in Clinic nursing, Midwifery, Clinical psychologies and Health officer

Required Professional Experience :

  • Minimum of 5-year relevant experience on Primary Health Care Service delivery, sociology, project management, Development studies and Nutrition service
  • Knowledge and experience on Ethiopia Primary Health Care System,
  • Knowledge and experience on MHPSS protocol
  • Ability to establish a strong relationship with government, community and other partners in the project operational areas
  • The candidate must have strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation and networking skills.
  • Prior NGO experience is desirable
  • With proven experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring.
  • Willingness to work and travel in often difficult environments
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required
  • Knowledge of Local language

  • Strong training skill
  • Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices, flexibility in working long hours and ability to work with incoming surge teams;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
