Within this context, UNESCO is looking for a Project Officer who will support the Division of Water Sciences and particularly the Section on Groundwater Sustainability and Water Cooperation (GSW), with the planning, organization, execution and reporting of a series of projects and activities, related to Thematic Areas of Groundwater and Water Cooperation. Long Description ---------------- **Overview of the function of the post** Under the overall responsibility of the Director of the Division of Water Sciences, the overall supervision of the Chief of the Section of Groundwater Sustainability and Water Cooperation, and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist in charge of Water Cooperation, the Project Officer will carry out the following duties: In the context of groundwater governance and transboundary water cooperation initiatives of the GSW section, including activities related to the monitoring of SDG indicator 6.5.2, the Transboundary Water Coalition, and the support to Member States in aquifer management and the implementation of conjunctive water resources management approach: • Actively participate in technical team meetings, working groups, and stakeholder meetings, providing meaningful input and collaboration. • Draft technical and background documents, concept notes, and other necessary written materials to support the projects’ activities. • Support the Programme Specialist in the planning, organization and execution of workshops, capacity-building events, meetings, and prepare minutes or reports as needed. • Undertake the review of national reports and perform data compilation and analysis as needed to provide valuable insights. • Keep all pertinent records up-to-date, which includes compiling and updating relevant reports and stakeholder contacts. • Deliver contributions to the creation of annual reports, progress reports and other necessary documents, ensuring they are prepared in the necessary formats, for internal and external (e.g. annual UNSD SDG reporting) purposes. • Assist in financial planning activities, ensuring that budgetary considerations are effectively tracked and reported. Long Description ---------------- During the assignment period, the Project Officer shall work full-time at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. UNESCO may assign additional tasks to the contract holder, provided that these tasks are consistent with the functions set out above. The duration of the contract is for 1 year, renewable for a second year, pending satisfactory performance and funds availability. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Long Description ---------------- **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **EDUCATION** • MsC in Water or Environmental Sciences/Policy or similar topic. **WORK EXPERIENCE** • Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in research and/or project management, with at least 2 years in an international setting. • Proven experience in establishing and updating databases for data compilation and analysis to produce statistics and reports. • Proven experience in conceptualizing and drafting reports and concept notes. **SKILLS/COMPETENCIES** • Excellent project management and coordination skills. • Ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural environment. • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to draft, edit and produce reports on relevant issues. • Strong IT skills, including with Microsoft Office software. • Ability to use project management software. **LANGUAGES** • Excellent knowledge of English or French (oral & written) and good knowledge of the other language. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **EDUCATION** • PhD in water sciences or environmental sciences. **WORK EXPERIENCE** • Previous working experience with UNESCO would be an asset. • Familiarity with transboundary water cooperation issues and the Global Water Agenda would be an asset. **LANGUAGES** • Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset. **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- The remuneration paid to the service contract (SC) holder is not exempt from any income taxes which may be levied by the French tax authorities. The SC Holder is affiliated to the French social security scheme (Régime général de la sécurité sociale et des prestations familiales). Consequently, the employees’ social contributions to this scheme will be deducted from the gross remuneration paid by the Organization. UNESCO is not subject to the French unemployment scheme (UNEDIC – Pôle Emploi) and complementary retirement schemes (Retraite complémentaire Agirc/Arrco).
