This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This UNV assignment is part of a UNESCO Ramallah project to contribute towards enhancing the role of audio-visual and social media in the post electoral cycle of the journalists and young citizens through:

  • Developing capacities and use of UNESCO manuals and tools to confront disinformation in the electoral process of journalists and media outlets to better report on electoral processes and elections outcomes and results.
  • Establishing a culture of fact-checking in the media.
  • Promoting freedom of expression as well as safety of journalists

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative or his/her designated mandated representative(s) and in close collaboration with the Executive Assistant/Focal Point for Communication and Information, and in the framework of the “Strengthening Freedom of Expression – Enhanced Role of Audio-visual and social media” project, the UNV “Project Officer” will:

• Assist in the implementation of the project activities in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority and Project partners, including regular monitoring, reporting and follow up; • Prepare relevant implementation status and final reports, briefings and public information material related to the project activities; • Organize and participate in meetings and field visits in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip related to the implementation strategy of the project as needed;. • Assist in drafting Terms of Reference for contracts within the implementation of the activities s in cooperation with the Executive Assistant/Focal Point for Communication and Information ; • Maintain updated files related to the project in line with the UNESCO Ramallah internal procedures; activities. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

• Minimum of 3-5 years proven experience in project coordination, media or communication and information related projects • Strong administrative skills • Awareness of own strengths and weaknesses and evidence of commitment to self-managed personal development • Excellent Arabic and English oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Working experience in the United Nations system is an asset.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ILS 4,776.82 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and Exit allowance for satisfactory service
