Job description

In addition to the German federal government, international institutions, governments, foundations, and global companies may also commission GIZ. In more than 120 countries, we offer our clients highly competent and efficient teams made up of German, international and local professionals. This wide-ranging know-how, individually tailored to our clients’ needs, allows us to master highly complex challenges.

Our Private Sector Clients team works at the dynamic interface between the private sector and international cooperation. We support companies in the process of implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide with a focus on Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In doing so, we scale international cooperation solutions that have proven successful or test innovative approaches in local contexts we are familiar with. We offer companies tailored advice, from design through project management to impact monitoring. Our portfolio includes projects in the agricultural, mining, forestry, education, and healthcare sectors as well as waste management with a growing focus on circular economy approaches. Our clients come from the food, retail, automotive, pharmaceutical, and chemical industry.

We are looking for an experienced project manager to support our Private Sector Clients team.

You are in continuous exchange with GIZ project and program managers relevant to the private sector and identify opportunities for cooperation.

Together with the project teams on site, you take on the management of projects with terms of up to 3 years and are responsible for project execution in line with contractual obligations. During project implementation, you ensure project success through professional management and quality assurance.

Your profile

  • You have more than 3 years of project experience, either as a consultant in an international environment, ideally in cooperation with customers from industry, agriculture, or energy, or in a strategic position in the implementation of sustainability strategy in a company.
  • You have completed a university degree with a focus on relevant topics such as climate change and decarbonization, (sub-)tropical agriculture, human rights, natural resource management or environmental management, ideally in connection with components of business administration or sustainability management.

  • You are a team player.
  • You have a high intrinsic motivation for sustainability and international cooperation.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, recognize opportunities, and develop options.
  • You look forward to implementation and problem-solving.
  • You have experience in the conception of complex international projects with actors from business, politics, and civil society.
  • You have experience abroad in a developing or emerging country; you are open to business trips to developing countries.
  • You have an established, relevant network and a high level of expertise in relationship management
  • You are fluent in German and English; Knowledge of French is an advantage.
