GIZ InS makes the concepts and experience of German development cooperation available to other clients against payment and acts in the spirit of the GIZ model of sustainable development. Clients benefit from 40 years of practical experience in international cooperation and the knowledge gained from more than 10,000 successfully implemented programmes and projects in over 120 countries and more than 100 specific sectors. GIZ InS offers its clients highly competent and efficient teams of German, international and local experts. With this diverse know-how, which is individually tailored to each programme, GIZ InS is able to meet the most complex challenges.

We are looking for a Project Manager to strengthen our team in the regional unit Francophone Africa. The PM is expected to travel regularly to the countries in the region. The position is located in Eschborn and is to be filled starting in April/May 2022.

Your tasks

You will be part of the regional team Francophone Africa within GIZ International Services. Focus of your work will be the development, follow-up and management of acquisitions in this region and follow-up of ongoing projects. (Potential) clients include the EU, bilateral donors, MCC, private companies, foundations and others. You develop concepts for offers and establish contacts with donors and government departments. You will backstop ongoing projects and be responsible for the implementation of projects in accordance with the contractual requirements. In close cooperation with the local project staff, you ensure the success of the project through professional management and quality assurance.

Tasks can be summarized as follows:

Project acquisition

  • Anticipatory and systematic market analysis.
  • Networking with donors, clients, partners and experts.
  • Evaluation of tenders or projects on the basis of key figures and contextual information.
  • Conceptual and methodical preparation of "pre-qualification" documents and tenders, including identification of experts and (short-term) partners, on-site research and coordination of tender preparation.

Project implementation and steering

  • Technical and financial steering of projects.
  • Support for the identification and mobilisation of long- and short-term experts for planned consultancy missions.
  • Review and elaboration of project reports.
  • Administrative and logistical support.
  • Knowledge management and development of project implementation tools and procedures.
  • Contact management with donors, clients, partners, and experts.

Your profile

  • You have a university degree (preferably in political science/economics, international law, regional studies or other studies oriented towards international cooperation).
  • You have 4 years of relevant professional experience in Germany or abroad in business development with international clients as well as in project management (internships are taken into account).
  • You have experience in the field of tendering with different donors.
  • You are interested in current trends and developments in the field of international cooperation and you are interested in political and development issues.
  • You are reliable, innovative, have excellent communication skills and are politically sensitive.
  • You enjoy working in a team, but you are also able to work independently and are willing to put the results of your work at the disposal of the team.
  • Your excellent management skills enable you to act in a focused manner and as a team under tight deadlines.
  • You have a very good knowledge of current Office applications.
  • Fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
