Result of Service The consultant contribute to successful communications and advocacy of the UN Office for Partnerships, particularly as it relates to the Decade of Action.

Work Location remote/from home

Expected duration Six months with a possibility of an extension.

Duties and Responsibilities This position is located in the UN Office for Partnerships (UN Partnerships). Guided by the priorities of the UN Secretary-General, UN Partnerships is the gateway to the UN system to connect and co-create partnerships to deliver solutions to reach everyone, everywhere. In its role as a connector, UN Partnerships proactively engages, convenes and leverages stakeholders, initiatives and solutions in support of the Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UN Partnerships oversees the UN Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF), the SDG Advocates programme, and the SDG Strategy Hub.

The incumbent will predominantly support initiatives of the SDG Strategy Hub and report to the Senior Sustainable Development Officer of the SDG Strategy Hub, as well as support the Executive Director and work closely with other members of the UN Partnerships team.

The consultant will work with the Executive Director of UN Partnerships on communications and advocacy, particularly as it relates to the Decade of Action and serve as the Project Manager of the SDG Action Zone 2022.

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Develop communication materials for the UN Partnerships leadership.
  • Lead on dissemination of various communication products, both internally and externally.
  • Lead on follow up activities with the media organizations and partners.

In regards to the SDG Strategy Hub, the consultant will: - Develop workstreams and timelines with key milestones. - Oversee, coordinate and manage all project processes: event and narrative development; program strategy and structure; session curation; plenary development; MC and speaker briefing; information management and partner liaison; digital and website; strategic communications. - Develop the platform and production strategy and act as the focal point between the SDG Action Zone project team and the event platform provider. Plan and coordinate the production management. - Follow up with partners after the SDG Action Zone to build and connect divergent communities interested in sustainable development.

In addition, the consultant will plan and organize UN Partnerships’ advocacy efforts carried out by the SDG Strategy Hub: - Assist other special partnership and advocacy events carried out and supported by the SDG Strategy Hub and UN Partnerships. - Research a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of advocacy efforts.

The consultant will also execute UN Partnerships ongoing outreach coordination efforts, in particular by facilitating SDG Strategy Hub meetings and by supporting the Senior Sustainable Development Officer of the SDG Strategy Hub with his/her daily programme: - Plan and organize SDG Strategy Hub meetings: identify relevant speakers and facilitate their involvement; prepare background notes and talking points; produce reports. - Conduct research and analysis for presentation of the SDG Strategy Hub, UN Partnerships and other senior UN meetings; draft background notes, talking points, and other briefing materials. Draft correspondence for senior UN staff regarding partnerships and advocacy. Prepare, chair and brief on meetings with senior UN officials. - Serve as a focal point for external organizations and relevant UN colleagues on advocacy and around special events; provide advice and support. Respond to enquiries and information requests.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is required.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in programme and partnership support, in combination with an advanced university degree is required.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Competency: PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of internal policies, processes and procedures generally and in particular those related to programme/project administration, programming and budgeting and coordinating events. Good research, analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and participate in the resolution of issues and problems. In-depth familiarity of the United Nations, its organizational structure, formal procedures, and practical experience in planning outreach events and conferences. Ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns.
