Result of Service The Project manager will ensure that:

Designs and execution meet Organizational needs and requirements. Projects are timely and satisfactorily completed within allocated budgets. All works are compliant with the specifications and security safety rules and regulations.

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities The Project Manager will ensure proper projects management and supervision, smooth flow of works and proper coordination with the contractors who are or will be awarded the projects in the UNHouse.

The project manager will be reporting to the Chief Facilities and Assets Management Services Section.

Planning and Design

  • Manages, coordinates, analyzes project proposals, tender documents and provides feedback and recommendations to ensure technical feasibility, and soundness.
  • Liaises with Planning and Design Officers and Engineers to discuss drawings and plans.
  • Applies commonly used calculations, practices and precedents in completing portions of larger projects related to the design, construction, or maintenance of major systems and facilities.

Implementation

  • Manages, coordinates, implements, supervises and monitors ongoing projects.
  • Reviews and validates baseline and schedules updates during construction.
  • Observes progress of works versus proposed work plans and invites Contractor for mitigation measures in case of any delays. •Undertakes research to gather information related to engineering projects.
  • Coordinates of activities of technical staff and contracted project personnel under his/her supervision ensuring technical guidance and direction.
  • Produces cost data and estimates, evaluates variations and costs if any for related engineering and projects activities.
  • Supports the management of projects budget allotments and monitors the projects expenditures.
  • Reviews contractors' invoices, measures executed quantities, prepares comparison tables and certifies amounts to be paid in line with the contracts for satisfactorily completed works.

Administration

  • Liaises with Facilities Management Officers, Engineers and specialists responsible for related specialized phases to arrive at mutually satisfactory approaches to problems by exchanging and comparing data.
  • Makes sure that correct, detailed and complete as-built drawings, specifications, performance documents and warranties are handed over to the Facilities Management Unit upon completion of the projects.
  • Performs other duties as required

  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the Chief of FAMSS.

    Qualifications/special skills A Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture or any other related area is required.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of twelve years of progressively responsible experience in management, coordination and supervision of construction projects is required.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
