Background Information - Job-specific

The United Nations Department of Operational Support, Office of Supply Chain Management (DOS/OSCM) is responsible for implementing an ‘end-to-end’ integrated Supply Chain Management in support of the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Operational Support (DPO/DOS) missions as well as Special Political Missions (SPMs). UNOPS has been requested to assist in the implementation of this activity for DOS/OSCM.

Since January 2017, a project team, known as the DOS Umoja Coordination Office, is responsible for deploying multiple project streams to peacekeeping and special political missions. The project team is looking for additional support for one of the initiatives, the Learning Framework project.

Functional Responsibilities

1. Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Learning and Training Advisor, the intern will perform the following duties:

  • Supporting ongoing training courses for DOS/OSCM personnel as the primary contact for learners
  • Managing course documentation for ongoing courses
  • Participate in outreach activities to client entities regarding mandatory training compliance
  • Researching and compiling information on training relevant to supply chain management personnel
  • Constructing monthly updates on learning and development opportunities
  • Contributing to the design of DOS/OSCM training needs assessment
  • Assisting in the creation of personalized learning plans for DOS/OSCM personnel
  • Providing project management support to Learning and Development initiatives at OSCM and DOS level

2. Training components and learning elements

The intern will be working directly with the Learning and Training Advisor and will be learning on the job daily. Dedicated time will be allocated by the supervisor for understanding the functioning of UNOPS and the UN development agency world in general.

3. Participation in missions or training courses

The intern will be able to participate in other different training offered by UNOPS, including online language and project management courses. Other opportunities will be discussed with the intern upon arrival. No travel missions are foreseen from the outset.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

1. Academic qualifications

Must be enrolled or have completed a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Education, Adult Education, Educational Planning, or related fields or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.

2. Language Skills

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in one or more official UN languages is desirable.

3. Internship-related experiences

Internship-related experiences not required, but previous working experience would be an asset.
