Duties and Responsibilities

UNOOSA is the United Nation’s dedicated entity working on space affairs, supporting the legal, political and technical aspects of international cooperation in space activities. Such responsibilities extend to capacity-building in the context of space economy and gender equality. The technical assistance services of UNOOSA to AEB include the preparation of open e-learning material, workshops, an international conference, a training and a report on the space economy. The consultant will finalize the preparation of e-learning modules, a report on the space economy and support the development of preparatory documents for other planned activities. Space4Women facilitate access to STEM and space education and careers to women and girls across the world and support organizations undertaking efforts to advance gender equality. As part of this project, UNOOSA is developing the first gender mainstreaming toolkit for the space sector, which will be finalized by June 2024. Under the supervision of the Associate Programme Officer leading the Project, the overall guidance of the Chief of the Office of the Director and under the overall strategic coordination of the Director of the Office, the tasks of the consultant will include, but not be limited to: • Conduct desk-based research on space economy • Finalize e-learning modules and report on space economy • Prepare social media campaign and support project outreach • Coordinate with e-learning unit and donor • Support the preparation of workshops on space economy and Space4Women • Coordinate the publication of the gender mainstreaming toolkit

Qualifications/special skills

Education • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, public information, economics, social sciences or a related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Working Experience • At least five (5) years working experience in the field of public information and project management is required; • Excellent, research, verbal and written communication skills are required; • The ability to work independently and as an active member of a team is desirable • Knowledge of outer space activities is required; • Experience working in international relations or for an international organization is desirable;

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
