Result of Service Project Activities aim to reduce waste streams (mainly plastic packaging and single-use plastics) entering the Caribbean Sea and to promote Circular Economy Solutions in the beneficiary countries.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional levels. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of global consensus on environmental issues by keeping the environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

UNEP is currently implementing two regional Plastics Projects: 1) the Global Environment facility (GEF)-funded LAC Cities Project, Reduce marine plastics and plastic pollution in Latin American and Caribbean cities through a circular economy approach (2023-2026) 2) “Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea” (PROMAR) project funded by the Government of Germany (2023-2025) and promoting circular economy solutions

The projects are executed by the Cartagena Convention Secretariat on behalf of UNEP in eight countries: (1) Colombia, Jamaica, Panama for the GEF LAC Cities Project and (2) the British Virgin Islands, Guyana, Suriname, Saint Kitts & Nevis, and Trinidad & Tobago for the PROMAR Project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the execution of the GEF LAC Cities and PROMAR projects including by ensuring synergies between the two complementary plastics projects being executed by the Cartagena Convention Secretariat, as well as with other workstreams. Specifically: - Provide support to the development of project planning and operational implementation; - Provide support in the administrative and logistics management processes of the project and its associated meetings with external stakeholders; - Provide support monitoring compliance with work plans and budgets; - Provide support in the management of project information, maintaining the respective archives, as well as being responsible for the inventory of all equipment purchased and services procured with project funds; - Provide support in liaising with external stakeholders (i.e., beneficiary countries and implementing partners) regarding information requests, consultations, event participation, communication as related to e.g., the coordination of meetings. - Review and support the preparation of technical and financial reports, including quarterly reports and reports on project implementation; - Assist in the development of relevant internal and external communication materials - Assist the process of preparation and execution of the monitoring and evaluation activities of the projects - Attend on-site visits related to the monitoring and coordination of the project activities, where relevant - Any other matter relevant to the success of this project

Qualifications/special skills Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Supplementary training in Administrative and Programme or Project Management is desirable. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive work experience in administration and programme or project management or related area is required. Strong organisational and written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience of working with regional and/or international organizations is desirable. Passion for, and interest in sustainability issues, particularly plastic pollution, is desirable. Multitasker with demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and concurrent demands is required.

Languages Proficiency in oral and written English required. Working knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
