ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Project Delivery and Communications Officer is a staff member of the PROJECT DELIVERY UNIT in the Bangladesh Country Office. The Project Delivery Officer works under the overall supervision of the Head of the Project Delivery Unit. This Unit delivers on a wide range of tasks and performs a wide range of functions and liaises with all program units, primarily Communications, as required by the Country Representative.

JOB PURPOSE

To implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering on a range of communications activities, and providing research and analysis as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Information management and research - Liaise across units and programs to create talking points, briefs, and presentations for the Country Representative as and when needed. This will involve doing research on a variety of subjects, including but not limited to, WFP program history and current status, national level data, national policy, politics, country context, and so on. Also ensure Country Office’s corporate reporting by supporting the drafting of external situation reports on WFP’s activities and programmes.
  2. Content creation - Collaborate with cross-functional team members on content ideas with the aim of creating dynamic, impactful and differentiated content; and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic and radio projects.
  3. Media outreach - Develop strategies for communication and messaging for a variety of audiences on WFP - Bangladesh projects, and liaise with journalists, bloggers, thought leaders on stories that highlight those projects. Also serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimize publicity of WFP’s activities.
  4. Project management - Implement projects and events for the Country Representative, including events for visiting dignitaries, local thought leaders and Government representatives, donors, UN counterparts, art and photography shows, concerts and other musical events, fundraisers etc. This will require detailed planning and liaising – with colleagues, external partners, media, artists, musicians, photographers, film makers, graphic designers, printers, local business owners and vendors, WFP Procurement, Finance, Logistics and other departments – to ensure events are effectively scheduled, published and attended.
  5. Supervision - Guide and supervise other staff within the unit, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
  6. Other functions –
  • Support the Senior Advisor with other activities including correspondence, scheduling, editing documents, work planning and prioritizing, and briefing the Representative on relevant political events.
  • Respond to specialized queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquires.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.
  • Liaise with local communications counterparts of donor organizations, if necessary.
  • Build and maintain a range of relationships and networks both within and outside the office.
  • Manage and present information appropriately so that it is easily available for other staff when needed.

Communication Strategy and Planning Applies advanced understanding of WFP communications strategy and best practice to effectively develop strategies to engage with media and other significant external stakeholders within area of responsibility. Oversees implementation, providing recommendations for improvement.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experiance: At least three years post graduation experience for advanced university degree or five years for first university degree in a relevant field of work, including at least two years in the field of communications/journalism or another related field

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and Bengali.
