Context

We are looking for an entry-level professional with a technical background and Project Management skills that is looking to start out. Could be a recent graduate or someone with 1-3 years experience, and with strong administrative, reporting and project management skills and be diligent in following up, compiling and tracking the reports from the consultants in the field. You will be working in the Field Operations department at Head Office – Oslo, Norway.

The climate and environment crisis is the defining challenge of our generation. As a displacement organisation, the climate and environment crisis is of major concern to NRC both as a cause of new displacements and because of the new risks, it presents to people already displaced. In the current strategy period, NRC is prioritising to strengthen its response to address the impacts of climate change on the displacement affected and to reduce our own environmental footprint.

What you will do

The Project Coordinator NEAT+ Capacity Building will serve as the focal point for the organisation of the capacity building sessions on NEAT+, which will take place in countries where NRC has an established presence. The aim of the position is to ensure coordination between NRC and other organisations taking part in the capacity building sessions without creating significant additional tasks for the NRC country offices that will host these trainings.

You will be responsible for planning and ensuring that NRC provides regular updates about the content and schedule for the capacity building sessions with the wider humanitarian community through the Environment in Humanitarian Action Network (EHAN) monthly meetings or other relevant fora. Other responsibilities will include monitoring the progress of the project, with a specific responsibility for ensuring the implementation of the initiatives required related to visibility.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the monitoring of the project with input from the Global Roving Experts from NORCAP, particularly:
  • The number and locations of the NEAT+ capacity building sessions

  • Support provided by the NORCAP Global Roving Experts to organizations on how to make changes to their programmes to make them less harmful to the environment

  • Number of organisational focal points that have been given additional training to be able to serve as trainers in their own organisations
  • Number of stakeholders that are informed about the findings and recommendations from NEAT+ screenings
  • Responsibility to gather input from participants through a post-training survey, and to summarize the feedback.
  • Responsibility to ensure that the reports produced as a result of the capacity building sessions are published on NRC's and EHAN's websites.
  • Responsibility, in coordination with the Global Roving Experts and the support from NRC’s External Relations Department, for ensuring that NRC delivers its commitments in the project related to visibility requirements of ECHO.

What you will bring

You will be successful in this role is you have the following;

  • University degree in environmental or political science or other social studies.
  • Documented experience from managing or providing support to larger projects or events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other departments, sections and units.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, working knowledge of other NRC languages (Spanish, French, Arabic) is an asset.
  • Relevant work experience in Humanitarian/ Development Sector (desirable).
  • Experience from environmental organisations is an advantage.
  • Competent ICT user, including word, excel, outlook, visio, ppt etc.
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian work and donor procedures (desirable).

Whom you will work with

You will together with two Global Roving Experts from NORCAP make up the team for this project. The position will be under the supervision of the Global Lead on Climate and Environment and be part of the Programme Strategy and Innovation Unit in the Global Programme Section, in the Field Operations department at Head Office – Oslo Norway.
