Meaningful participation of Young People in the Global Refugee Forum

4 months at DRC HQ

Do you excel in facilitating collaborative processes and innovative (hybrid) events, particularly focused on engaging young people? Are you well versed in international displacement and related policy agendas, and do you aspire to help amplify the voices of young people in high-level decision-making forums? Can you transform large amounts of diverse input into clear messaging and creative communication? If yes, then we would like to talk to you!

Who we are

DRC/Danish Refugee Council is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded in 1956 that works in over 40 countries throughout the world. DRC fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to displacement and conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in the conflict areas of the world; and by advocating on behalf of displacement and conflict-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian and human rights principles to be able to access their rights and live a life in dignity.

Together with UNHCR and in close collaboration with youth-led organisations, the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action (CYPHA) and a series of civil society organisations, we are committed to working with and for young people to enhance their meaningful participation and future opportunities.

About the position

The second Global Refugee Forum (GRF) will take place in December 2023. Building on recommendations from hundreds of displacement-affected young people in various countries and collaborative efforts in CYPHA, it is imperative that the voice of young people will be given a prominent platform, both in the lead up and during the GRF - and looking forward.

To ensure meaningful participation of young people in the process, a series of activities will be organised, including:

  • Youth focused information about the GRF processes, pledging modalities and ways to participate.
  • Youth-led policy dialogues in co-convening countries to the GRF as well as a global, online modality.
  • Development of youth focused pledges to the GRF, building on the outcomes of the convenings.
  • Direct engagement and participation of young people to the GRF on December 12-15.
  • Facilitate and support to the operationalizing youth-related pledges and support youth-led processes towards the GRF 2027.

Main responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will mainly focus on developing and supporting multiple (4) national youth-led convenings and a global, online modality. Direct involvement and engagement of young people throughout the process is paramount. Tasks include:

  1. Sourcing – assist in mobilizing participants in countries and online, who bring new ideas and perspectives to an increased youth focus at the GRF.
  2. Assist in identifying relevant stakeholders (States, local authorities, private sector, UN entities, Youth networks, civil societies) to attend the youth-led convenings events.
  3. Coordinate a minimum of four in-person workshops in co-convening countries together with UNHCR, DRC and partners in countries. One entity in each country will be identified as logistics lead.
  4. Draft recommendation papers to the GRF in consultation with UNHCR and DRC and other stakeholders - including youth.
  5. Develop an open space mechanism for young people’s input to the GRF (e.g., a platform for short video statements in consultation with UNHCR and DRC).
  6. Support the organisation of the GRF side-event.
  7. Support and provide input to GRF activities in countries.
  8. Provide input to the Youth Compact and its members in working with and for young people/output report.
