Overview

Assist schools in implementing educational activities related to SDGs.

You have:

  • A first-level degree in Arabic language, education, or other related academic background is required.
  • At least 15 years of proven experience in the fields of public relations, communications management, workshop and event planning, education, written content creation, or other relevant areas is required.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of English and/or French is desirable.

Result of Service The incumbent will ultimately be responsible to provide assistance to selected schools in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait and others in designing and implementing SDG-related educational activities, and to contribute to the drafting, translation and dissemination of volumes III and IV of the book.

Duties and Responsibilities The ESCWA Stories Team was established by the ESCWA Executive Secretary to mainstream the United Nations values and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among students aged between 8 and 14 in the Arab region, through the production and dissemination of a comic book including stories on the SDGs. The Team visits educational institutions, interacts with students and teachers, and organizes events for the promotion of the comic book and its objectives. It also supports the schools in implementing development projects within the school or in its neighbourhood. Against this background, the ESCWA Stories Team is seeking the services of a project coordinator to assist selected schools in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait and others in designing and implementing related educational activities, and to contribute to the drafting, translation and dissemination of volumes III and IV of the book.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Team in the timely production and dissemination of volume III of the ESCWA Stories comic book.
  • Contribute to the drafting of five new stories for volume IV of the comic book in Arabic, and the subsequent translation into English.
  • Liaise with schools in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait and others to plan and implement educational activities for students aged between 8 and 14, based on the ESCWA Stories comic book, throughout the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Contribute to drafting scripts of videos documenting the student activities.
  • Ensure that the comic book is used as an educational tool to help mainstream the SDGs in the target schools.
  • Participate in field visits to/online sessions with the schools to support and document the implementation of relevant activities.
  • Plan for events (inside schools or at the UN-House) to showcase the students’ creative work related to ESCWA Stories and the SDGs (artwork, interactive readings, creation of new characters, theatrical adaption, community service activities, etc..).
  • Maintain regular communication and follow-up with the SDG advocates/teachers participating in the project.
  • Liaise with Ministries of Education, ALECSO and National Commissions for UNESCO.
  • Liaise with NGOs and donors to support schools.
  • Perform other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications/special skills A first-level degree in Arabic language, education, or other related academic background is required.

At least 15 years of proven experience in the fields of public relations and communications management, workshop and event planning, education (teaching and/or working with educational institutions), written content creation (in Arabic), and/or other relevant areas is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of English and/or French is desirable.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Additional Information Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
