This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNDP Ghana CO Head of Environment and Climate Change or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Project Coordinator will:

  • As an active UNDP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNDP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:

  • Serving as the primary focal point for the programme, representing the partner UN agencies as appropriate;

  • Ensuring that all programme activities are implemented and monitored in line with the project’s theory of change and apply the human security approach.

  • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; and

  • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

  • Coordinate overall project implementation in line with the human security approach.

  • Develop comprehensive/detailed project work-plans that include all project activities and roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders and setting-out corresponding milestones.
  • Ensure that all programme activities are in line with the approved programme proposal and budget, and apply the human security approach.
  • Monitor the progress of implementation of project activities and key event schedules observing the work-plans and set deadlines.
  • Manage and monitor the project risks.
  • Collect the inputs from implementing partners and other UN agencies and preparing consolidated narrative progress reports, and providing those consolidated reports to the UNDP and relevant stakeholders in accordance with the timetable established in the agreement and the requirements outlined in the UNTFHS Guidelines.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports by UNDP in accordance with agreed timetable of the project.
  • Maintain strong relationships with relevant project partners and Traditional leaders in the Akyem Abuakwa area.
  • Support the capturing of lessons learned during project implementation.
  • Ensure documentation and communication of development results of the project are shared with the partners as well as within UNDP.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in any of the following areas Social Science, Environmental Science, Health and Education or a closely related area;

At least 3 years of professional project management experience, preferably in one or more of these

Experience remark

  • Experience working with the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the project area or experience in working in the area is desirable;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Akan(Optional), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

  • At least 3 years of professional project management experience, preferably in one or more of these areas: environment, education, health, nutrition;
  • Experience working with the UN or other international development organization is an asset;

Knowledge of the project area or experience in working in the area is desirable
