This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

With the Project - "Building Inclusive Development Cooperation on Poverty Reduction between China and Developing Countries", and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Training Division of the International Poverty Reduction Centre in China, the UN volunteer shall undertake the following tasks to help IPRCC move from generic experiences sharing and exchange into problem-solving oriented and action-based learning, with other developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and to maintain the South-South cooperative platform established between China and other developing countries through the training program:

1) To assist the training division of IPRCC to develop solid frameworks for the poverty reduction related and South-South Cooperation oriented trainings/seminars. The specific tasks include:

  • To communicate with donor agencies and assist the development of frameworks for each training session/ seminar;
  • To design the contentment for training courses;
  • To communicate with training experts in finalizing the training courses;
  • To organize field trips for participants;

2) To provide various kinds of support for the seminar. The specific tasks include:

  • To communicate with related sectors to make sure the seminar be held on time;
  • To provide logistical assistance while the trainings/seminars are undergoing.

3) To liaise with Chinese ministries, key party organizations and academics with project administrative tasks as required.

4) To liaise with UNDP to provide knowledge sharing for South-south cooperation.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor or higher degree in economics, development economics, agricultural economics, rural development, social protection or other subjects related to poverty and poverty reduction.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

At least 2 years experiences in research and training programs on related subjects and familiarity with domestic and international poverty and their policies are preferred.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Chinese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Other educational, teaching or training experience, Other communications related experience, Development programme/project administration

Area of expertise details:

  • Research experiences in one or more aspects of the core subject matter (poverty reduction, social development, rural community development);
  • Good familiarity with social development and experience working in poverty reduction;
  • Experience in planning and implementing development projects, seminars and workshops;
  • Good coordination and organisational skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Work with partners as clients as well as external contacts;
  • Have supportive and cooperative relationships with other colleagues in the team;
  • Willingness to learn new things and update knowledge and skills regularly;
  • Experience and familiarity with UNDP procedures is an asset.
