Overview

Support operational coordination and implementation of IBG projects in Ethiopia.

You have:

  • University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Public Administration, Management or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience
  • School diploma with five years of relevant experience

Contract

This is a G-5 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 5 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-5 contracts.

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer (IBG), and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer (IBG), the Project Associate (IBG) will support the operational coordination and implementation of Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) projects in Ethiopia, with a primary focus on the Ethiopia component of the regional counter-smuggling programme and with support, as required, to synergistic activities across the broader IBG portfolio.

The incumbent will support the implementation, particularly for trainings, workshops, coordination meetings, assessments and routine engagement with government counterparts. The role will support the effective delivery of capacity-building activities related to border governance, document examination and fraud detection, migration management, referral procedures, and related operational priorities.

The incumbent will also support follow-up across multiple implementation sites and contribute to operational coherence with other IBG interventions, including, Legal Identity, Cross Border Trade, Document Examination, MIDAS-related activities, institutional strengthening efforts, and technical coordination with national counterparts.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Public Administration, Management or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience; or
  • School diploma with five years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the operational implementation of IBG projects in Ethiopia, with a primary focus on the Ethiopia component of the regional counter-smuggling programme.
  2. Assist in the organization, coordination and follow-up of capacity development support to partners like trainings, workshops, validation meetings, consultations and field-level activities under the project.
  3. Support coordination with working-level government counterparts, including Immigration, Police, Justice and other relevant stakeholders, under the guidance of the National Programme Officer.
  4. Contribute to the organization and implementation of capacity-building activities on border management, migration governance, document fraud detection, reporting, referral pathways and related thematic areas.
  5. Support logistical and operational follow-up for project activities implemented across Addis Ababa and other locations, including airports and land borders and other relevant sites.
  6. Assist in tracking implementation progress against workplans, activity schedules and deliverables.
  7. Contribute to the preparation of training and visibility materials, activity files, meeting summaries, briefing notes and draft operational documents.
  8. Support coordination related to assessments, studies and consultancies, including follow-up with service providers, consultants and relevant stakeholders.
  9. Maintain regular communication with counterparts and support follow-up on agreed action points from project meetings and field missions.
  10. Support operational coordination with related IBG initiatives.
  11. Undertake duty travel to implementation sites as required.
  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
