Overview

Assist in implementing communication and information programmes in South Asia

You have:

  • Demonstrated interest in journalism, media development, freedom of expression, and access to information.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer or in another culture, such as studies, volunteer work, or internship.

Contract

This is a UNV National University contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National University contracts.

The UN Volunteer will assist the Communication and Information Sector of the UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia in the implementation of its programme in South Asia to achieve the above stated Organization’s mission and objectives.

Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia and supervision of Advisor for Communication and Information, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Assist in the organization and delivery of capacity building workshops and meeting of the CI programme/projects related to freedom of express, safety of journalists and media viability; • Participate in monitoring and analysing delivery of programme activities and projects; • Support in undertaking research and participate in the CI sector planning of projects and activities; • Assist in drafting of reports of CI activities and partnerships in the region; • Assist in drafting press release, website articles, social media content and speeches related to CI programme and events; • Undertake any other task assignment by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by read-ing relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Contribute to building traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
