Overview

Assist in the implementation of resettlement and integration project activities.

You have:

  • School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor's degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields with two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.
  • Fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Norwegian is a distinct advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.

Contract

This is a G-4 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 4 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-4 contracts.

Furthermore, Migrant Training activities are integral activities of IOM’s MRLP Division, equipping migrants with essential knowledge and skills to support their successful integration and self-sufficiency in destination countries. These training programmes are implemented globally under the framework of the MRLP Division and are tailored to meet the specific needs of migrants, in close coordination with partner organizations and Governments.

In IOM Norway, the Resettlement and Integration Unit is implementing activities related to supporting quota refugee resettlement, family reunification, and the integration of refugees and migrants. In particular, this relates to activities carried out under the quota refugee resettlement programme and the Norwegian Cultural Orientation (NORCO) programme, both carried out in support of and close coordination with the Government of Norway.

Under the general supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Integration), and the additional supervision of the Senior Programme Assistant (Resettlement), the Project Assistant (Resettlement and Integration), is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education

  • School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills

  • Computer/software literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks under time constraints.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.

Language

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Norwegian is a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of resettlement and integration project activities.
  2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics related to resettlement, beneficiary assistance and integration support.
  3. Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
  4. Support administrative coordination of project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, and facilitate beneficiary support and integration-related services, as required.
  5. Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
  6. Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations and other forms of documentation, including documentation related to project beneficiaries and integration activities.
  7. Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions, supporting beneficiary orientation, integration, and information-sharing efforts.
  8. Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records, including beneficiary files and project-related documentation.
  9. Undertake duty travel in support of project activities, if required.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
