Organizational Setting

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved the Government of India’s GEF6 Green Ag. Project titled, “Green-Ag: Transforming Indian agriculture for global environmental benefits and the conservation of critical biodiversity and forest landscapes”.

The project objective is to catalyze transformative change for India’s agricultural sector to support achievement of national and global environmental benefits and conserve critical biodiversity and forest landscapes. The project is organized around two components. The first component strengthens the enabling framework and institutional structures to mainstream bio-diversity (BD), sustainable land management (SLM), climate change mitigation (CCM) and sustainable forest management (SFM) policies, priorities and practices into India’s agricultural sector. The second component demonstrates replicable “Improved agricultural and conservation practices” for sustainable production, resilient livelihood advancements, habitat improvements, and delivery of tangible BD, LD, CCM, and SFM benefits.

The project is being implemented in five landscapes: i) Chambal Landscape (Madhya Pradesh), ii) Dampa landscape (Mizoram), iii) Similipal Landscape (Odisha), iv) Desert National park Landscape (Rajasthan) and v) Corbett- Rajaji Landscape (Uttarakhand).

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of the Officer-In-Charge, FAO Representation in India/Project Director and guidance of the Assistant Project Officer, the incumbent will undertake the following duties.

Tasks and responsibilities

● Research and retrieve information from internet and other sources as per the thematic areas of the projects ● Assist in designing and monitoring the field level interventions in the project landscapes with a focus on Biodiversity Conservation, Climate Change Mitigation, and Natural Resource Management ● Provide support in developing monitoring tools and protocols for data collection and report writing on all the NRM activities. ● Provide support in compiling project monitoring reports. ● Monitor the impacts of agricultural activities on climate change against the indicators for measurements of the extent to which climate change is mitigated for enhanced Global Environmental Benefits (GEBs) ● Support Assistant Project Officer in designing strategy on proposed interventions for mainstreaming Biodiversity, especially agrobiodiversity conservation into landscape level management measures ● Review reports received on broad thematic areas such as BD, LD, CCM. ● Assist on conducting trainings , provide support in analysis and finalization of report on household survey for all the project landscapes ● Any other task as assigned towards fulfilment of the above activities ● Any other work as assigned by Officer-In-Charge, FAO Representation in India /Project Director, Green-Ag.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Post Graduate degree in Life Sciences / Natural Resource/Environmental sciences or any relevant subjects. • Working knowledge of English. • One year of relevant experience in the field of Natural Resource Management • National of India.

Technical/Functional Skills

● Experience of working at field level with farmers, community institutions for natural resource management ● Ability to effectively use standard office software, such as MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point). ● Ability to use statistical packages ● Good research and analytical skills ● Good working knowledge of English language
