This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of IOM Head of Office or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Project Assistant will participate in implementation of project activities and project administration, including the following:

  • Assist in the implementation the Pilot Youth Diaspora Volunteering Project in Mauritius
  • Prepare all project documents and coordinate the different meetings and activities of the project.
  • Assist with conducting research and analyzing information in support to project implementation and project development activities;
  • Assist with monitoring project implementation, keeping records and submiting monitoring reports on a regular basis
  • Assist in the preparation, the organization, and the facilitation of activities, workshops and other meetings held by the Country Office in the implementation of projects; Provide logistical and technical support for the implementation of the project;
  • Assist in editing and preparing relevant situation/activities Donor/project reports, updates, info sheets, publications, press-releases, newsletters, presentations and other information materials in cooperation with relevant officials at IOM Mauritius, project partners and other IOM missions involved;
  • Participate in technical meetings, working groups, workshops, and other coordination meetings related to the implementation of the project
  • Assist in maintaining regular working relations and communication on the project with the government, national migration related agencies and institutions, international organizations and NGOs, other project partners;
  • Ensure that sustainability principles are incorporated in the project management cycle and that the project makes a contribution to the achievement of some SDGs
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, project management, development studies, social science or other related field with focus on project development or advocacy would be an advantage

Required experience:

48 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 4 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in project or programme management; experience with volunteering programmes or youth is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience and familiarity with migration-related topics;
  • Experience in organizing workshops and other events, including online events
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Computer proficiency, above all proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite and web-based systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in migration issues, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
