Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for providing cultural mediation assistance to the Hungarian authorities and people affected by the crisis in Ukraine, including target train stations and land border crossing points, in the framework of the overall IOM Hungary’s response in Ukraine’s neighboring countries. 1. Provide general support to the Hungarian authorities (police, civil protection, health authorities, immigration) at the target train stations and land border crossing points; 2. Translate from Hungarian into different affected people’s mother tongue (Ukrainian and English) and vice versa; 3. Assist in the mediation activity in an objective and impartial way; 4. Provide general counselling on national laws and administrative procedures, in particular those related to asylum; 5. Remain available to travel from/to sites in the area of the assigned duty station; 6. Assist the Field Coordinator and Head of Office with the preparation of all relevant financial documentation related to the project (payment/reimbursement/travel) and regular reporting to the project team; 7. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

The duty station for this assignment is Budapest and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service.
