Overview

Assist in project activities related to data and statistics.

You have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics is required.
  • Fluent in English is required.
  • Fluent in Arabic is required.
  • No previous work experience is required.

Result of Service The incumbent is required to: - Present compiled and cleaned datasets pertaining to specific indicators; - Present brief summary reports and presentations; - Assist in the organization of workshop and preparation of meeting reports.

Expected duration 6 Months

Duties and Responsibilities Background: The project is to enhance capability of target countries to produce quality, granular and timely statistics in specific data areas to measure and mitigate the impact of Covid-19 and eventually monitor sectoral recovery and safeguard policies, leaving no one behind; as well as to increase knowledge of beneficiary countries on their status and gaps in enhancing resilient and agile NSS and addressing current and emerging data needs across workstreams.

General Duties: The incumbent should assist in implementing the activities related to the newly received DA account, DA14, on monitoring economic disparities.

Responsibilities: - Assist in compiling, processing and manipulating data sets derived from a variety of sources; - Assemble and examine original statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity and validity, and make appropriate adjustments; - Assist in drafting papers, reports and presentations; - Provide administrative assistance and backstopping services in the organization of training workshops, meetings and seminars that are programmed within the above-captioned project; - Conduct research and undertake adhoc tasks in areas related to the project field; - Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics is required. For this post, no previous work experience is required.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required; and Fluency Arabic is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
