Duties and Responsibilities Background:

The Arab region faces many political and socio-economic structural challenges. National development planning plays a vital role in economic prosperity and improving social dynamics and the wellbeing of populations. Arab countries pledged to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrated many of the goals into their national development priorities. However, many national plans in the region are badly structured and poorly implemented due to structural and behavioral obstacles in the planning process.

In this regard, ESCWA launched the Arab National Development Planning Portal (ANDP) as part of its ongoing project Enhancing Integrated National Development Planning in the Arab region. The Arab National Development Planning Portal is an interactive tool that aims to enhance the process of development planning in the Arab region by supporting policymakers and other stakeholders in creating evidence-based decisions and policies. The ANDP is subject to yearly updates due to continuous changes in Arab National Development plans, visions, and sectoral plans.

Moreover , ESCWA developed the Arab Legislation Portal, a portal that provides ESCWA member States with access to a repository of regulatory frameworks in the region pertaining to the business environment. Giving the fact that existing laws are always changing, every year ESCWA updates the report and the portal, by reflecting and collecting all the reforms in legislations related to the business environment.

Duties and responsibilities:

Given the above, ESCWA is currently seeking the service of an Individual Contractor to support ESCWA update its ANDP. The Individual Contractor will also support the preparation of other project related activities, and support the implementation of the overall project. The Project team will also benefit from the service of this IC in updating another major portal, the Arab Legislation portal (ALP). The main duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor are the following: - Collect all new data related to National Development Planning and to regulatory frameworks pertaining to the business environment - Data Entry - Review for the design, functionality and content of the portals in collaboration with ICTS - Report Assistance - Translate all the materials from Arabic to English and vice versa - Provide administrative assistance - Contribute to drafting Concept Notes, NVs, Project proposals, TORs - Prepare budget for projects, forums, conferences, meetings… - Disseminate project related materials, and surveys with Member States - Contribute to supporting the overall implementation of the program - Support the preparation of a variety of presentations, tables, lists, charts, data sets, and/or diagrams for information - Draft scripts for project related promotional videos, and media plans - Undertake related tasks on ad hoc assignments as requested by the supervisor - Support internal coordination procedures - Attends a variety of meetings to follow discussions, take notes and prepares summary report, notes for the file, correspondence, etc - Participate in the substantive and policy discussions of the team

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or a related field is required. At least one year of experience in project assistance is required. Strong oral and written skills, excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills are desirable.

Languages Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
