Result of Service To provide support in the implementation of activities under the GEF CReW+ Project, including the preparation and completion of relevant reports, the development of knowledge management products and other materials that support the activities of theproject and the Secretariat, and coordination with partner agencies, national focal points, consultants and internal administration.

Duties and Responsibilities Organisational Setting:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional levels. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of global consensus on environmental issues by keeping the environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

UNEP and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are currently implementing the Global Environment facility-funded CReW+ Project An integrated approach to water and wastewater management in the Wider Caribbean Region using innovative solutions and sustainable financing mechanisms in 18 countries in the Wider Caribbean. The project is co-executed by the Secretariat of the Cartagena Convention and the German agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GmbH) on behalf of UNEP and the IDB, respectively, and the Organisation of American States (OAS).

Roles and Responsibilities:

Through the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat, the Project Coordinating Group is seeking a Project Assistant for six (6) months to provide support in the regional implementation of project activities and the work of the Secretariat under the project. The overall tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Support the finalization of UNEP’s revised work plan and budget under the GEF CReW+ Project for 2022;
  • Support the finalization and launch of the new GEF CReW+ Website;
  • Assist in preparing Progress Reports and Financial Expenditure Reports throughout the period of assignment;
  • Communicate with project focal points to obtain input for the development of relevant Terms of References, project documentsand national activities;
  • Support the recruitment of national and regional consultants, the development of Project Cooperation Agreements and thefinalization of all national project documents for the 10 UNEP-led countries;
  • Assist with the implementation of the project’s communications component through the preparation of knowledge management products (such as articles, infographics, factsheets short videos, as appropriate) that promote the objectives and expected results of the project;
  • Provide input and support the preparation and execution of the GEF CReW+ Second Steering Committee Meeting, includingcompletion of meeting reports, list of participants and follow-up with project countries;
  • Assist with the preparation for the GEF CReW+ Mid-Term Evaluation.

This consultancy post is in the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for the Assessment and Management of Environmental Pollution Sub-Programme.

Qualifications/special skills Skills: - Fully proficient in using the following Microsoft software applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. - Good organisational skills. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team. Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in applied natural sciences, social sciences or other relevant disciplines. Experience: - Experience supporting the planning of virtual events as well as preparing reports, technical documents and otherinformation products. - Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders would be an asset. - Knowledge of and experience in operational modalities and procedures of UN Agencies, GEF or GIZ would be an asset. - Knowledge of water and wastewater sector is desirable. Language: English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, proficiencyin oral and written English and Spanish is required.
